to all our linkin park fans,
we heard today that the album leaked...so i guess some of you have had a chance to hear what we've been so excited about. we're both excited and disappionted that you're hearing it right now. here's why:
it couldn't be more exciting to give you all new music, especially after all the hard work we put into it. this album was almost a year and a half of experiments, mistakes, inspiration, and careful craftsmanship. we put everything we had into these songs, and want you to hear every second of it. i can't wait for you to absorb all the levels of meaning in the songs, and the layers of music, eventually forming your own ideas about what the songs mean to you.
at the same time, a leak leaves out some very important parts of this piece of work. we put months of creative energy into the ART of the record, in the booklet, special edition, and big book...almost as long as it took to record hybrid theory. the album has amazing photos, lyrics, and notes about how the songs came together--it's the visual half of the record. on the other hand, the super-special-edition book is packed with exclusive images, stories of the making of the songs, gorgeous art, the CD and a DVD that tells the story, showing the actual moments of inspiration caught on camera. for me, it's almost hard to imagine anyone really experiencing this album without that part of it.
even the song sequence alone is very important. it's WAY different to hear the songs in a random order than to listen to this record from beginning to end. at the very least, if you've already downloaded the songs, do us a huge favor and listen to them in the right order...it'll be way more rewarding :)
...that's all we wanted to say. if any of you want to be patient and hold off on downloading the album, and get the proper experience by checking out the actual piece in your hands, we applaud you for your restraint! and to everyone else who can't wait: we can't help but understand, because we're just as excited about this album coming out as you are. either way, thanks for listening, and being a fan of our music.
thanks for supporting the band, see you on tour!

Hi, Mike
First of all i have to say i didnt like the new album that much,i am sure you guyz put alot of effort into this album but i still can't understand why the sudden change from rock to something between rock and pop
Anyway,i have to admit i was one of the first to download the leak, mainly because i couldnt wait any longer, but i for one will be the first to buy the album (despite the fact that i was extremely disappointed with the change of style) when it arrives here, espically for the extra features in the album.
regards, hope all the best for you and the band come the offical release.

hehe i was rather surprised that the album leaked, but im definatly gonna wait till the 14th to hear it, for all the reasons you just mentiond haha.
But thank you so much for putting so much time and effort into making something that will be so spectacular :)
Even with the leak im sure most of the people here already have the album on pre-order or plan to buy it the first day, with better sound quality to boot!

this just doesn't seem right. mike i'm a huge fan man.. you're an inspiration BUT it seems as if you're tying to convince people to buy the album instead of answering and citing the opinions and reactions of fans. so we can't enjoy the songs if we don't buy the album? i'm pretty sure anyone who downloads hybrid theory can enjoy it as much as they would if they had bought the album. good music is good musid and it should be enjoyable without art or whatever else. come on mike... i like the new album i just don't like the way you responded. also if songs are good they can be heard in any type of order and you'd still enjoy them. i play in the end from time to time and i enjoy it.. i dont have to play the whole album until i get to it to fully enjoy it. lol wtf mike. so it's an experience now?! oook. and mike that album is way expensive come on man!
and one questions mike: do you guys plan to stay on this new road and explore it? or will you listen to the fans and please them for the next one? i'm a huge fan man but i don't know. it all seems to commercial right now.

Hey Mike!
You'll be glad to know I haven't downloaded the album, and I'm holding off until May 12 when it hits the stores in Australia. I'll be buying it then, and I reckon it'll be awesome!
Sounds like you guys have put loads of work into MTM, and I can't wait for when I've got that album in my hands.

Dear Mike,
We all love and appriciate your, and the rest of the band's creativity and sence of art.
It is a great deal of difficulty for me to agree with NewcastleFan. The new album is a disappointment to many of us. We understand the need to change, and we aplaud the greater sence of maturity you, and everyone else, feels! However, the change from the past albums to 'Minutes to Midnight' was a bit drastic.
Am I saying the album is total crap? No. Will I grow into it? More than likely, yes. But at the moment, it's hard for me not to skip several songs while playing though the whole thing, simply because they leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I wish you guys the best of luck for ages, and for the upcoming shows, along with the official release.
Respectfully,
ChexBoss.
I also want to note to everyone else, that this thread should be taken with a great sence of maturity. Say only what needs to be said here.

It was amazing. I preordered two copies in case this happened, so i think it's fair. The album was great. Shame on the people who don't buy it. Sorry to hear it leaked...you know who the real fans are though. Hopefully, all goes well like Meteora did. Good luck.

It's a shame that it has been leaked, but most people like myself already have it on pre-order. It's been so long since you guys have released an album, it's hardly surprising people can't wait to hear it.
I'm just a little disappointed that we don't get a CD/DVD version here in Australia :(.
Great work on the album though guys.

Yeah, kinda' disappointing it leaked but oh well.
I was counting down 'till the 15th >_<
I still can but it's not the same since everyone else has like heard it.
And the playing songs in order, actually I always do when I listen to CDs because it's like the way they were intended.
Some songs on an album might have an order that just goes good with it like how it starts then ends or whatever.. but yaya.

Hey,
I have to admit i did jump at the chnace to download it; worry not, because i will be buying the uber-edition regardless - yet...the change has left me...empty. I have loved this band for 7 years now, and i never expected this. I like it, mostly, it will probably grow a lot on me, and eventially i will sing it's praises - but it's not having the same tremendous impact Meteora did. It's almost like a filler album. Please don't get me wrong, i am enjoying it [Hands Held High is a great song, along with stuff like Valentine's Day, and The Little Things you give away]- your creativity has shown again, but...sigh* i don't know. It's like some bits have that same ultra-produced quality, while others strip it down to nothing in an effort to seem 'chnaged'.
Anyways, it's sure to be a good album; i'll definitely be buying the cd/dvd/art book edition, and the new merch. I appreciate the huge work you guys have put into this. Despite the criticism, from those who say you've sold out your sound [rap/rock was seriosuly constricting your sound and expansion into some..'more'] I am liking this album. Onto the ipod it goes, and wehn May 14th comes around, i'll be at the stores before school to purchase it.

No doubt you will be seliing millions Mike,if its a question of sale's then just the name of LP is enough to sell at least 10 plus million recoreds.
And its good, no body can say that MTM is not good, its just really diffrent (and in a bad way),i've download it almost 9 hours ago and been listing to it ever since, whenever i got the chance,it just dosn't seem LP to me.
Then again its just me personal opinion, and i guess maybe it will grow on to me sooner or later (or atleast i hope so)..

I think people are making their decisions on this album far 2 quickly. I'm sure we all went through the same feelings when Meteora was released.
Give it time, listen to it over the course of a week, then see what you think. I don't mind that LP have changed the formula, if the released an album the same as the last 2, they would be critised just the same.
They are exploring themselves as artists, and I will continue to support them through whatever they do. My impressions on the album are mixed atm, some amazing songs in there, a few will take a little longer for me to warm to.

I downloaded the album (i've pre-ordered it anyways) and I did listen to the songs in order. I have to say tho, that this album is disappointing. I thought that MTM was worth the 4-year-wait, but no. However, I do think that No More Sorrow is your best song, just not in the best of album.

Yeah, i know what you mean. Things will have changed in a week, people will have had a second listen, get to know the songs better.
Albums always take time to grow on me, meteora did, Tool - 10,000 days did, give it time people.

when I listened to the album for the first time, I asked me: “What This Fuck?!” it was disappointing.
Then, I listened one more time... I was perceiving some different things, but in the Linkin Park style (yes, you said that this would go to happen and happened). Well, I listened more and more times, I read critical and interviews about the album...
With this, my evaluation on the album improved sufficiently. Then, I started to give attention in the letters and now I can say:
"The new album is perfect, very good guys, excellent work, Brazil waits you"

Mike, I am starting to like the new album. Hahah, i can totally relate to the Radionhead comparision. To be honest, even if this isn't the best album, in relation to the mega-success of HT and M, i think you guys are going to use this one well aren't you? I can see huge things for LP in the future. [I particularly like your lyrics on Hands Held High - it's a great diversion from the more open lyrics of the otehr songs - mixing current issues with great music..another new thing for LP perhaps?]

I think Mike knows that as an artist everything you do is subject to critcism,i.e look at the first two albums, they were both MAJOR hits yet alot of people slated them for being childish and overated etc...
Its the fact that you can improve yourself by identfying whats missing, you can't give yourself feedback on your work, you listen to what people say about it,how can it be improved, where did you go wrong, and i think the only reason LP are a such a big hit with people is because they learn from their mistakes and try to improve themselves, thus us seeing this album coming in a diffrent style then the old album, and us seeing a guitar solo, something alot of people argued that it was missing in LP,they are still young and talented and i have no doubt they can generate the best music in the coming years, shortcomings should be fixed and as fans your job is the help the band fix it,not worship them and say everything they do is a work of god
Agree though with the amount of work and effort they put to this,1.5 years is not a shot peroid of time but as a fan i expected something a bit better then this, lets hope that all the special features and Mike's art work make up for the "just good" songs.

so what happened to not swearing because y'all wanted to be more expressive than that? :p
just wanted to say I kind of echo the sentiments of most people here - the songs are cool, well written, it all works really well and so on... but I'm finding it hard to listen to it and think 'this is Linkin Park'. It feels like a cool side-project, where you guys kinda chilled out. I don't know if that's a bad thing or not!

I dont think the album lives up to many fans' expectations, especially after all the hype you brought up for the album. However, I do believe that The Little Things Give You Away does live up to that expectation. Apart from No More Sorrow, it's definitely one of your best songs.

Forget the last post [by me] - I love the new album. Thankyou. i can't wait for the M2M 'making of' dvd - those aspects of your albums i have loved almost as much as the music itself; it's always great to see you guys working on a new album. May 14th can't come quickly enough.
p.s. When will you guys be coming to Australia - missed you first itme round because you never came to Brisbane. PLEASE COME TO BRISBANE..i can't stress that enough. Not just Sydney or Melbourne..Brisbane.

i do have to admit that i downloaded the album but i am planning to buy the album anyway because i am still dedicated to linkin park. i am very proud of LP because this album shows their growth and improvement since their hybrid theory days. i was iffy at first when they first announced that they were getting rid of their old sound but the new sound still shows linkin park are still linkin park but in a grown up way. i'm glad this album came out the way it did :)

You really think they lost their identity? In what ways? When I listen to some of their new stuff on Minutes to Midnight I still find some of the same lyrical themes just written differently, more maturely. I haven't downloaded the album, I'm still waiting, but as far as the sound goes, just seems to me like they're becoming more creative. Like they don't have anything to prove. They wanted out of the whole nu-metal genre anyways.
I think they achieved that, in a good and enjoyable way.

Well, Mike, first let me say, that I'm 100% excited and not even a little disappointed.
My aim was to wait until the album was released and really absorb it all at once, but when I saw the leak, I couldn't contain my excitement, and I downloaded it, almost in a haze of excitement. I was hardly conscious at the time.
But, the music is amazing, you should be proud, and rest assured that I will still buy several copies of the album, I've already preordered one, and I will still take the time to listen to the whole piece while reading the liner notes and enjoying the art.
It's going to make it more fun to already know the songs by heart, actually. Anyway, the dancing in my sig? That's me right about now, listening to Bleed It Out.

but whatever.. the nu metal sound is like dead.
Well I downloaded the lowest quality version of it possible, so that when I get the cd on release day it'll be like a whole new experience. I'm loving the new songs, and the new style takes some getting used to but it is very cool. I'll be getting it the day it comes out.
I have to admit, my favourite part of the album was the rapping, and I'm sad there isn't more of it. At the same time, I understand that it doesn't really fit in with the whole atmosphere of the new album.
Anywho, leaks have ruined the fun of getting an album on the release day, but at the same time they make it fun to hear the album before it comes out because it makes you feel special. After a few listens through again tomorrow I'm going to delete the files and wait till I can pick it up. I have to say though, amazing album. I know why other people are shocked, because it definitely isn't the same ol' LP that everyone remembers, but it's still amazing music from an amazing band. Can't wait to see you guys live!

who knows maybe they tried writing more nu-metal and it just sounded simply old. they said they don't want to be like that anymore anyways. so can you imagine if they were like to hell with getting away from the nu-metal sound let's just stick with it, can you imagine how garbage that would sound? if they wrote music they were getting tired of writing?
soft pop? listen to it man, it's deep. these songs are heavy and not in a volume sense. they're powerful. guess that's just how i feel.

They wanted to change, don't u hear so many ppl saying "every linkin park song sounds same" now these have different topics and they sound different and have deeper meanings to songs.

exactly.
i don't think people are giving the songs a chance, i think they automatically think "ohh great another slow song" and put it aside.
if people didn't know that the majority of the songs were slow and were just given one slow song without any knowledge of what the rest of the album sounded like, i think they'd really appreciate that song. and that goes for all the slower songs. think about it.

I downloaded the album once I heard it was out, but I'm also buying the CD and DVD once it does come out. As for the people who dislike the change of pace in music/style compared to LP's past albums, all I can say to thos who compare M2M to (EX. Hybrid Theory). Think about it, as good as M2M is (its epic imo, lol.) if I wanted to listen to something that sounded like Hybrid Theory, I would listen to Hybrid Theory! Yeah, its a different pace. It caught me way off guard but M2M will grow on a lot of you (even more for the people who love it already). This is just my opinion of the whole lot of all this.

Yes, yes he is a legend.
the thing i have liked about MTM is it is a perfect compliment to LP's other two albums. Now LP has a mix of slower and faster songs instead of just mostly all hard rock songs. This album also gave me alot of respect for the band to instead of doing a sequel to meteora which was a sequel to hybrid theory they branched out and let the other members of the band like Brad really step out and let his guitar be alot more noticeable

Mike,
I thought I could hold out, it turns out I had to give in to hear two songs mainly: Hands Held High and In Between. I've been waiting to hear a full song from you on an LP album and I finally got it. Seriously, both songs are beautiful. Out of the two, In Between is my favorite for the simple fact that there's so much more emotion in it. You deliver it very very well. This is not so say that Hands Held High doesn't have emotion, it does, but your singing just puts it out there, raw, and I like that.
To the rest of LP,
I absolutely love the sound. You may have changed a lot from metaphorical lyrics, which I did enjoy, but I think it was for the better. These lyrics just bleed raw emotion. I really would love to hear more of this sound overall (the slow and the hard). It's been a long time, and I've been waiting, but I have to say the wait was well worth it. Beautiful guys, just beautiful. Oh, and I did pre-order the CD/DVD/Artbook/Tee-shirt bundle the first day it hit the LPMerch site. I can see it payed off for me in the long run. Can't wait for the actual hard copy. Anyone can download it and have it mean something, but to actually hold the finished product fills you with joy.
Keep up the great work in music and in life. Rock on guys. :D

After that, I didn't hear any full versions except the live versions. I trust in Linkin Park and I know they won't dissapoint their fans, I plan to wait until May 14th. Listening to it worldwide. What up Mike? Sorry to hear about the leak. I've listened to it, but I can gurantee that I'm going to buy the album on the release.
My apologies for the long post... I have insomnia.
I was going to start by pointing out that I’m a bit of an old fart, but I’m sure that anyone who reads this will figure that out for themselves ;-)
this just doesn't seem right. mike i'm a huge fan man.. [CUT FOR SPACE] so we can't enjoy the songs if we don't buy the album? i'm pretty sure anyone who downloads hybrid theory can enjoy it as much as they would if they had bought the album. good music is good musid and it should be enjoyable without art or whatever else. come on mike...
- rob
(In my opinion...)
You’re partly right… good music is good music, and I’ve downloaded odds and ends from iTunes without feeling as though I’ve missed out on anything. But with whole albums, there always a nagging feeling that there should be something more.
If Wikipedia is to be trusted, then I’m only a few years older than Mike. I grew up a complete vinyl junkie, and I’m thinking there’s a pretty good chance that he did too. Vinyl was a tactile medium, but the cover art, sleeve and labels could be wonderful in themselves and just added to the whole experience. Good design echoed and reinforced everything the album was about, and it was something to take a great deal of pride in. I’ll never forget the excitement of finding my Dad’s old copy of the Stone’s Sticky Fingers album, complete with the Warhol cover and real zip (google it, if you have no idea what I’m on about). He’s still pissed off he never got it back from me.
CDs killed cover art. At least as we knew it. The dimensions and packaging changed the rules, and good design didn’t seem the priority it once was.
I have some CDs that defy the trend, but they’ve taken a lot of time and effort to make them stand out, to be something special. It sounds as though this is what the band are trying to do with this release, and I applaud them for that. If I wasn’t in the middle of the mother of all economy drives, I’d buy the posh, expensive coffee-table-book edition in a heartbeat.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking progress, and if anyone wanted my iPod, they would have to prise it out of the cliché of my cold dead hands. But to me, the full package gives the music a visual and physical form that make it special, and not just another file stashed on your hard drive.
Another quick(ish) point. People seem to be complaining about the change in direction. I'm sure this is largely due to the band changing and growing in what they do; however, Mike and the rest of the guys are also old enough to understand the music industry. There are a few things that can happen to bands as time passes:
- They go down in a blaze of glory… think overdoses, suicide etc. Their place in history is immortalised, and they become a marketing man’s wet dream. This is something that I’m sure we’re all agreed shouldn’t happen to LP.
- They keep releasing what is essentially the same record. The music industry is obsessed with finding the next Next Big thing. Fans’ tastes change, and the world moves on. Band gets left behind, playing to smaller and smaller crowds of people who are collectively stuck in a time warp. They become a pitiful parody of everything they once stood for.
- The band takes a chance, and changes direction. It’s a move that isn’t going to please everyone, but at least they stand a fighting chance of not nose-diving into obscurity. Being old enough to have seen the rise and fall of dozens of genres and hundreds of bands, I wish Linkin Park well.
Finally (I promise), I've lost count of the number of times that I've heard an album track that for whatever reason didn't entirely do it for me, but absolutely blew me away when I heard it live, and then forever changed the way I heard it [for me, this has been especially true of slower, more mellow tracks]. Many of the comments seem to be along the lines of “I like it but it’s not Linkin Park…” Give the songs a chance, go see a live show, and feel the songs evolve.
But most of all, however you listen to the new music... enjoy it!
JJ.

One of the radio stations in Chicago played the whole cd from start to beginning all the way through so I had to listen. The songs are good but its not Linkin Park.
Linkin Park music is known for its sound. There different from the rest of the rock bands out there. The way they mix rap and rock is what they are known for. This cd though it has a couple tracks where I know it is Linkin Park, for the most part sounds like any other rock band out there. Also having at least 4 songs with such laid back tempos is not there style either. I was hoping for this cd to be a mix of there old records and a mix of the new sound they were looking for. I still like the cd, will go out and buy it first thing when it comes out. Hopefully hearing it off the cd the quality will be better and give me more then what I heard off the radio.

lol, NewCastleFan, I agree with you, but let's not botch the real story here.
You can't say the album is good (and I quote "no body can say that MTM is not good") and then turn around and say it's bad (again, just to support this "and in a bad way"). Just wanted to point that out.
As for thescenek1d and Red_Sol, I understand completely where you're coming from, especially you Sol. LP has been this cornerstone of alt. rock for quite a while now, and to see this new "stripped down" album is exactly what somebody said here on the thread - it feels like a "filler album".
Honestly, if I wanted pop or anything like that, I have other bands to turn to - I guess with that giant 4 year gap between Meteora and this, I was expecting something revolutionary, not just "changed" or "evolved" or whatever other euphemism you use to comfort yourself in the fact that the new sound is neither all that new nor all that good.
Let's not bullshit around here - Neither Meteora nor Hybrid Theory took some "getting used to"... There was a great beat and a great sound there, and I can only hope that it comes back through somehow.

After having read the whole thread, I see that I may have identified with the wrong people...
Oh well, I'm going to be flamed or whatever the hell you call it for having written opinions against the popular norm. I just didn't like it at all, with the exception of one song:
"What I've Done"
Now, if the whole album had sounded like that, it'd be a whole 'nother story....

Yeah MIke im pissed. And all over alot of the forums we are getting the same comments. LP u need to listen to ur real fans and fix this now. The album is weak, real weak for what is the third album coming off of 2 incredible pieces of work. Change is fine but only if its positive. Mike u are not even in the album thats just crap. and this soft pop lullaby crap is gay. There are 3 songs that are decent on the whole album the same three that everyone is pretty much saying everywere and what ive done is one of em if not the best and its the closest to the old LP and it hits number one. THe album sucks and would fail miserably if it wasnt from LINKIN park. I have been a huge fan from the begining u have changed my life and helped alot in the first two albums. Why go from a great band numetal rap hip hop mix to a average crappy radio play my chemical romance wannabe group is beyond me. 100 songs and this is the best u can give us. Why should we pay for a album that u have to skip thru songs to find ok ones and not get that great feeling from. Ur first two are awesome from begining to end, unique fresh and strong. this one is one of the worst albums I have ever heard come from a great band. Screw Rick rubin, get mike shinoda back in the game, let DJ hahn do what hese good at, get chester screaming again, the drums kicking, guitars slammin and drop some real nice hip hop rap metal rock that is what mad u guys great. This was gonna happen ...nowadays, its extremely weird if a album didnt leak ..... anyway I'll buy the album on May 15th .
to all our linkin park fans,
we heard today that the album leaked...so i guess some of you have had a chance to hear what we've been so excited about. we're both excited and disappionted that you're hearing it right now. here's why:
it couldn't be more exciting to give you all new music, especially after all the hard work we put into it. this album was almost a year and a half of experiments, mistakes, inspiration, and careful craftsmanship. we put everything we had into these songs, and want you to hear every second of it. i can't wait for you to absorb all the levels of meaning in the songs, and the layers of music, eventually forming your own ideas about what the songs mean to you.
at the same time, a leak leaves out some very important parts of this piece of work. we put months of creative energy into the ART of the record, in the booklet, special edition, and big book...almost as long as it took to record hybrid theory. the album has amazing photos, lyrics, and notes about how the songs came together--it's the visual half of the record. on the other hand, the super-special-edition book is packed with exclusive images, stories of the making of the songs, gorgeous art, the CD and a DVD that tells the story, showing the actual moments of inspiration caught on camera. for me, it's almost hard to imagine anyone really experiencing this album without that part of it.
even the song sequence alone is very important. it's WAY different to hear the songs in a random order than to listen to this record from beginning to end. at the very least, if you've already downloaded the songs, do us a huge favor and listen to them in the right order...it'll be way more rewarding :)
...that's all we wanted to say. if any of you want to be patient and hold off on downloading the album, and get the proper experience by checking out the actual piece in your hands, we applaud you for your restraint! and to everyone else who can't wait: we can't help but understand, because we're just as excited about this album coming out as you are. either way, thanks for listening, and being a fan of our music.
thanks for supporting the band, see you on tour!
-mike and LP
mike, i totally understand, i downloaded the album tonight because i couldnt wait, but with all other cds, if i download them, i buy them the day they come out. and trust me, i love this album and will buy it on the 15th

i can't agree more ... every single word you said is right
im a big fan from another part of the world
"im from saudi arabia" .. and the album is waaaaay far than LP style
MIKE .. your my musical hero man !!
MAN some times i think your more talented than michael jackson
the way you right lyrics and spit your powerful rhymes
and the way you act like a real MC and create such unheard of sound mixing ..
think about this mike .. what made LP big ?? ha ? tell me
it's the style its the hip-hop / DJ / rock mixing !!
why throw all what makes you what you are ?
LOOK .. im not saying be hard core all the time
im just asking to be what you are ,, cuz thats what made your music special
remmember when you said : WHO CAN ROCK & RHYME LIKE THIS ? BRING IT TO YOU EVERY TIME LIKE THIS ??
not this time mike .... not this time

Although this album is indeed different, i do like it. and as long as i have liked Linkin Park, i have actually liked the Xero Stuff way better.
Who can rock a rhyme like this? Take it to you every time like this? Step, Step up, Step, step up.
Using the waves of sound, the true master paralyzes his opponents, leaving them vulnerable to attack.
I'm going to wait 'til the CD is released.

Pre-ordered it as soon as I could. I'm ashamed to say I did end up with the leaked copy, but that makes me want to buy another copy for my car (my kids will take the original copy for themselves). I know it's very different from your other work, but the the changes are wonderful. There is a lot more depth and meaning to the lyrics, and the layers upon layers, and richness of the music (to steal JZ's words), shows how hard you guys worked on it. I'm glad you took your time and gave us top notch work. I'd expect nothing less from you guys. See you at PR when you get here!

HEY MIKE!
I hope you get to read this!
I've been a fan since 6th grade! Your music has been inspiration for me for these past 6 years. It helped me get though hard times, it got pumped up for my wrestling matches.... damn, it has been there throughout my junior high and high school career. And I just want to let you know I have a deep appreciation for the way you write your lyrics and the way you guys put so much time and effort in perfecting the music!
I've listened to some of the new songs on the cd, and I love them! Different, but still frickin awesome!!! I'm diggin the songs, really feeling the emotions within them. The only criticism I have is that you should have definitely put in a few more rapping verses.
Even though I d/l the songs, no worries! I have already pre-ordered the album.
And to all you HATERS OUT THERE!! STFU!!! DAMMIT LET'S HEAR YOU MAKE BETTER MUSIC!!! LET'S HEAR ANYONE MAKE BETTER MUSIC! NO ONE IS ON THE LEVEL OF LINKIN PARK. YOU GOTTA BE MORE OPEN TO CHANGES, FOOLS!! GIVE THE SONGS MORE LISTENS! FEEL THE EMOTIONS, LISTEN TO THE MESSAGES IN THE SONGS!!!
LINKIN PARK RULES!!!

Mike, I hope you can give some more insight at some point into your thought process in writing "Hands Held High". I was very impressed with the passion, the flow, and the vocabulary you conveyed in doing Fort Minor, and that ability is encapsulated in "Hands Held High." Just a tremendous song.
I've always thought that you were very underrated as an MC because I think some critics and listeners didn't want to give props to a guy in a rock band, sort of a knee-jerk reaction that happens from time to time in every community.
I would imagine that more will come out about the songs as we go past the release date, but if you've got a chance in between the tremendous amount of gigs and other stuff you've got going, some insight into "Hands Held High" would be awesome.

Hmm...it is weird that we've [for those who are 'waking' to the album] had to listen to it a bit before we begin to like it. I mean, whne Meteora came out, i was in grade 8, or thereabouts - now, really..a 12 year old doesn't have much musical disgression. BUT, i did continue to love LP, and it's prettty much accepted they are one of the greatest band in this century [21st that is...i believe for a while, they were the top-selling band of the 21st century] - they music is tight, well produced [if nto overproduced] to almsot perfection - stuff like Numb, In the End, Breaking the Habit - it just can't be argued with that these were awesome songs. But that was 4 years ago.
(OMFGZ, LOL>>> LP SUCK MA BALLS NOW LOL< ROFFLCOPTROZ)
(If they had made anotehr Meteora, the same thign would have happened, and they, as muscians, can't be bound by what i consider to be a restricting genre? DO you all want another Numb? Yeah, might be cool - probably indistinguishable from the old one. BUt do we need another Numb? No.)
Ever since then, i've chnaged my musical taste to include things i'd never dream of, in the days i was totally devoted to LP, and it was all i played. Tool, Augie MArch, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Folk, Classical, you name it..i probaly like an artist who practises it...
LP has chnaged. Face it. We've chnaged. They WANT to chnage. I find it a great album. PPpl aren't liking it because , "OMGLOLZZ, NO RAPPINGLOL [not true btw], WHERE'S DA SCREAMIN FROM CHESTA?" And, "Oh, great...my fav band has become just lik everyone else....Oh, wait, you mean they DIDN'T have a monoply over the rap/rock alt.metal genre? Gosh. AND WHO THE FUCK KEEPS CALLING THEM EMO???! HOW FREAKING STUPID ARE YOU? [i think that needed caps...if you don't get what i mean...jsut watch the numb video, the breaking the habit filmclip, or listen to any LP song you care to choose...and youtell me they weren't already pretty 'EMOtionally involved'? ]You guys keep catagorizing them, and i know for one, MIke hates that.Hmm...well..sigh* I NEED a chnage. I love M2M - Maybe having to listen toit a few times is what i have to do now. Look at RHCP. 28 songs..and about 10 were good. But now, as i listen to it more, it's a pretty damn good. I can't wait for May 14th.

I agree with that, i will wait till may, 11th. I have been waiting for over 4 years now, so 6 more days to get the new album. I don´t know, but it was meant to be listened on the official release-date, so why can´t people just wait a few more days? No offense, just my opinion. And talking about the album: it was already clear, some fans won´t like it (they wanna hear the same stuff again and again, they perhaps changed their taste of music or other reasons). But i am sure, most of the fanbase will love it and LP will receive a lot of new fans :D
I am already satisfied. They played WID, Given up and no more sorrow at the Berlin concert. I love all of these so the new CD has already 3 Hits for me :)
Waiting for the Hamburg-concert :D

I have been listening to LP since Hybrid Theory, there hasn't been a single day I haven't played Papercut. But, Minutes to Midnight is the LARGEST dissapointing depressing thing I've ever been through in my entire life... I'm extremely let down by this, the band was much better the way it was. I'll still buy a copy, but I'll probably never listen to it. My friend and I worshipped your music man, why'd you have to go and do somethin like this?

You hit the nail on the head lol. Many people here have changed their music tastes from LP's first albums, I think we expect LP to be a certain way, certain type of music style ...well because we've never heard anything different from LP, I think a lot of people who posted weren't expecting this at all. They might be used to LP being a certain way and thats it. My style has changed dramatically from when Meteora came out to now. I went from an avid "OMG LP ROX!! KTHXBAI!!" fan to listening to anything and everything. Having LP come back, with a new tune/style is ...refreshing!

Im a diehard LP fan, but I have an honest question, If a band builds a name for themselfs and gets a fan base on that style why should they change? Frankly I think alot of people are going to be dissapointed with the album. Granted it wont be a bad album, but the fans want to hear LP, not a U2 wanabe band. Thats what I kinda gathered from the single "What I've done" The video reminded me alot of U2's Vertigo,
Im all up for bands experimanting with tracks and different music but I think they need to keep some of the music to their roots, as that is what captured their fans and what built the band.

Thank you guys for putting so much time and effort into the album. I'm sorry it
leaked to spoil the excitement of the release date, however, I believe it's still going to be one of the biggest events of 2007
This debate that HT and Meteora sound alike and MTM is SOOO unlike anything LP has done is actually GREAT....Don't these people see???
You guys always put your heart and soul into everything you do ~ that's what makes you LINKIN PARK.
Nothing will ever be like Hybrid Theory....
No album will ever sound like Meteora.....
and Minutes to Midnight will be like nothing else you release in the future.
You will always create something that is unique from everything else you've done in the past.
That's why I know in my heart the open-minded people who truly love music and appreciate talent will fall in love all over again

I understand completely what you're saying Mike. Any songs downloaded off the internetz just doesn't feel right without actually buying the album. It just doesn't have that feeling you would feel when you buy the CD. And since there's the Super Edition of MTM, with all the lyrics art and information on the songs, you'll definitely understand the songs more even if you have heard it a dozen times already.
There goes my two cents. :)

I have to applaud you for being so cool with it leaking Mike. Once an album leaves the CD pressing plant and starts getting into the hands of retailers, radio stations, etc., there's really no way to stop a leak from happening. You guys did an excellent job with security of the album for as long as you could, and this is right about when I expected it to leak.
I have to say, I'm a little iffy on the album as a whole so far, but it takes a good couple months for me to get everything I can out of the music and really let it sink in.

to all our linkin park fans,
even the song sequence alone is very important. it's WAY different to hear the songs in a random order than to listen to this record from beginning to end. at the very least, if you've already downloaded the songs, do us a huge favor and listen to them in the right order...it'll be way more rewarding :)
thanks for supporting the band, see you on tour!

thats what i did, is it so wrong :( , and mike i listen to it in the right order!!

This just means that word of mouth will spread like wildfire and the buzz will be immense, so that their first week sales will be even bigger. That's assuming a lot of people enjoy the leak, which I think many do and/or will, despite the few but loud and obnoxious dissenters on these boards. So, from a business standpoint, this is probably a good thing.
It's sweet that Mike's concern was purely artistic. He just wants us to have the whole package at once. But, the whole thing will come together for those of us who downloaded the link eventually. And, then it'll only be sweeter.

to all our linkin park fans,
we heard today that the album leaked...so i guess some of you have had a chance to hear what we've been so excited about. we're both excited and disappionted that you're hearing it right now. here's why:
it couldn't be more exciting to give you all new music, especially after all the hard work we put into it. this album was almost a year and a half of experiments, mistakes, inspiration, and careful craftsmanship. we put everything we had into these songs, and want you to hear every second of it. i can't wait for you to absorb all the levels of meaning in the songs, and the layers of music, eventually forming your own ideas about what the songs mean to you.
at the same time, a leak leaves out some very important parts of this piece of work. we put months of creative energy into the ART of the record, in the booklet, special edition, and big book...almost as long as it took to record hybrid theory. the album has amazing photos, lyrics, and notes about how the songs came together--it's the visual half of the record. on the other hand, the super-special-edition book is packed with exclusive images, stories of the making of the songs, gorgeous art, the CD and a DVD that tells the story, showing the actual moments of inspiration caught on camera. for me, it's almost hard to imagine anyone really experiencing this album without that part of it.
even the song sequence alone is very important. it's WAY different to hear the songs in a random order than to listen to this record from beginning to end. at the very least, if you've already downloaded the songs, do us a huge favor and listen to them in the right order...it'll be way more rewarding :)
...that's all we wanted to say. if any of you want to be patient and hold off on downloading the album, and get the proper experience by checking out the actual piece in your hands, we applaud you for your restraint! and to everyone else who can't wait: we can't help but understand, because we're just as excited about this album coming out as you are. either way, thanks for listening, and being a fan of our music.
thanks for supporting the band, see you on tour!

well, I've downloaded it too, because I just couldn't wait to listen to it...I mean...HEY, IT'S BEEN FOUR YEARS WITHOUT NEW MATERIAL!!!...I don't know what everybody else thinks about this, but in my opinion it's okay to download it as long as you still buy it anyway afterwards (which I'll DEFINITELY DO!!! :D )
for the album itself: the first time I heard I was like: WTF DID THEY DO???? of course I loved no more sorrow or given up from the start but I didn't like the other ones because I missed the energy from ht or meteora...it wasn't at all what I've expected but after listening to it again I got "used to it"...and now I've got to say that I really really really like the album!!! Each and every single song is great!!!! My fav atm is 'In between'...I just love mike's voice...I think it would be great to hear this one live *puppy dog eyes*

Hey Mike
Just to let you know, me and my two friends are all gonna buy the album. From what the three of us have heard we think it's brilliant and defaintly worth adding buying not downloading. Well Done.
Well here is my opinion, I think it is still enjoyable whether downloaded or bought, but if you are a true fan you'll buy the album.

I wish Mike would come back on - i think he'd be pleasantly surprised about the turnout of this thread - M2M is another mammoth effort - and I am sure, another amazing success. If not...it's still a beautiful album, one which I will certainly treasure. Good Work guys - Joe, Mike, Chester, Brad, Phoenix, and Rob.

we have said it a million times and will continue to: this album is very different. if any of you who were shocked by the sound feel inclined to give it more listens, i hope it grows on you. for those that are with us, glad you like it!

Like what many other bands do. People just seem to forget that.
I dont understand for one when people say you guys dont "sound" like LP. Yet when I heard the new song on the radio at work I knew it was you guys straight away without the radio saying it was LP.
But we are all human and we all have opinions. Not everyone can be happy =) And THAT is what a lot of these people on here need to get the fuck over.

Uhm, I have downloaded the full album, I love it, and I will buy the CD/DVD and the big big book anyway. I hope Mike's no more hungry now. *nods*
I have to say I downloaded the album but I'm still buying it on May 15. All I can say is that I was pretty shocked when i first heard it. The first intro song Wake is amazing. It's a true LP style song but unfortunately it's only an intro. Wish they made a complete song. The songs "What I've done", "In Pieces", "Leave Out All The Rest" are the songs I liked the most because they all have a little bit of that old LP style but still different. Song "Hands Held High" is one the best patriotic songs I've heard. I really liked it even though it's more kind of a soft hip hop song. "No More Sorrow" the hardest song on the album. It's really pumping adrenaline in your vanes. "Bleed It Out" is also amazing. Lyrics are great, tempo a little faster but the chorus is kind of too simple, but then again it sounds great. Anyway i definitely miss the old Linkin Park sound, but I have to say that the album is good. Any LP fan can find at least 3 or 4 songs that they'll like. I know that's not what most of us expected but we can't say that the album is bad. It's just different from the others but still unique and very relaxing in it's own way. See you on May 15 in stores ;)

Mike,
When I find out that the MtM has leaked I... downloaded it and i began listening to that... But I stopped it at "Leave out all the rest" (Im not calculating Given up and No more sorrow cuz i heared it before in really bad quality). Why? Because it's a one of the best songs i've heard ever. It's a touching and amazing art of music. I really appreciate your work, so i'll wait to 14th of may, when my Minutes to Midnight dvd come. I hope that other songs are same good as Leave out all the rest...

Hey mike and everyone...
I have to say.. I am dissapointed with the lack of energy.. although I do clearly see the "well crafted-ness" (to invent a word lol) of the slower songs... of the album as a whole.
However, I am posting this reply merely because I SERIOUSLY respect the fan interaction that LP and mike have shown to everyone. WOW.. I think it rocks that a band actually talks to fans without a stupid: "planned chat night come talk" type of PR thing.
Anyway.. I have feeling that M2M wont really be a fav for me.. simply cuz I think I'm more into deep lyrics couples with vast dynamic changes and alot of M2M seems more 'flat' dynamically, but Oh well.. bands need to do all different stuff and I hate the way the whole industry pushes different styles one at a time and flat out MAKES certain styles or genres popular and not.

For my sins I couldn't resist the urge to listen to what LP had to offer after so long preparing this album. The reaction that Hybrid and Meteora got from the adoring masses, this album was always going to attract mixed reviews and with such a dramatic change in sound and style it lived up to that. However, in my own humble opinion, you cannot help but be impressed by the depth of meaning achieved with these selected songs. If they took 18 months to prepare this, narrowing down from supposedly upwards of 150 tracks (not sure of exact figures?!), now I can see why. On first listen I was waiting for a 'Faint' or 'Breaking The Habit', or even a 'Papercut', but this album reached me on a totally different wavelength. 'In between' is possibly one of the most moving tracks I have ever heard in this genre. I already had this album on pre-order, and I cannot wait to get the disc
Mr Shinoda,
For every fan that comes on here and slates this album I am sure there are many more who applaud the bravery of taking that next step and progressing the sound. Times change, people grow up, it is the way of life. I will always be an LP fan, and thank you for bringing this music to me. Keep up the good work as ever, and hope to see you in the UK real soon, as I was not lucky enough to ge tickets to see you at the Astoria two days ago... Have you got plans to tour the UK, if so when will it be?
A devoted LP fan, Dave :)
I have pre-ordered the cd, and later on I'll be buying the special edition cd/dvd 'cause I know it won't be released here, where I live, the day it should. But I just couldn't wait, and I went and downloaded the album as soon as I heard it was leaked (this morning).
I listened to it, and I really like it. It really is different, but in a good way. When you listen to the songs, you can hear that there's been put lots of effort to make it sound exactly the way you guys want the songs to sound like. All I can say, is 'WOW'. It's amazing. I can't wait to get my hands on the actual cd, you know, just to feel it in my hands :D
Great work LP!
Lots of Love,

Many many negative reviews have surfaced. I almost hopped into that wagon but I gave it a chance.
I like every song but think In Between is just ok.
People have stated 'The Little Things Give You Away' was over hyped.
I must admit, when first hearing it I placed the same judgements as most. It was my second least track after
In Between.
12min later I had a listen to it again and closed my eyes. WOW
I understand why the band have been hyping this true epic of a song. It is an outstanding piece of work by
only a band like LP can deliver. I hope you all can see what I'm experiencing with this masterpiece.

to all our linkin park fans,
we heard today that the album leaked...so i guess some of you have had a chance to hear what we've been so excited about. we're both excited and disappionted that you're hearing it right now. here's why:
it couldn't be more exciting to give you all new music, especially after all the hard work we put into it. this album was almost a year and a half of experiments, mistakes, inspiration, and careful craftsmanship. we put everything we had into these songs, and want you to hear every second of it. i can't wait for you to absorb all the levels of meaning in the songs, and the layers of music, eventually forming your own ideas about what the songs mean to you.
at the same time, a leak leaves out some very important parts of this piece of work. we put months of creative energy into the ART of the record, in the booklet, special edition, and big book...almost as long as it took to record hybrid theory. the album has amazing photos, lyrics, and notes about how the songs came together--it's the visual half of the record. on the other hand, the super-special-edition book is packed with exclusive images, stories of the making of the songs, gorgeous art, the CD and a DVD that tells the story, showing the actual moments of inspiration caught on camera. for me, it's almost hard to imagine anyone really experiencing this album without that part of it.
even the song sequence alone is very important. it's WAY different to hear the songs in a random order than to listen to this record from beginning to end. at the very least, if you've already downloaded the songs, do us a huge favor and listen to them in the right order...it'll be way more rewarding :)
...that's all we wanted to say. if any of you want to be patient and hold off on downloading the album, and get the proper experience by checking out the actual piece in your hands, we applaud you for your restraint! and to everyone else who can't wait: we can't help but understand, because we're just as excited about this album coming out as you are. either way, thanks for listening, and being a fan of our music.
thanks for supporting the band, see you on tour!

dear Mike, i was wondering is there going to be a special edition minutes to midnight in australia?
Yeah, It's a good question. I live in Australia and i hope that there is a special edition, If not Ill just buy the normal one from JB hi-fi for $18.00 on 12th of May. :)

to all our linkin park fans,
we heard today that the album leaked...so i guess some of you have had a chance to hear what we've been so excited about. we're both excited and disappionted that you're hearing it right now. here's why:
it couldn't be more exciting to give you all new music, especially after all the hard work we put into it. this album was almost a year and a half of experiments, mistakes, inspiration, and careful craftsmanship. we put everything we had into these songs, and want you to hear every second of it. i can't wait for you to absorb all the levels of meaning in the songs, and the layers of music, eventually forming your own ideas about what the songs mean to you.
at the same time, a leak leaves out some very important parts of this piece of work. we put months of creative energy into the ART of the record, in the booklet, special edition, and big book...almost as long as it took to record hybrid theory. the album has amazing photos, lyrics, and notes about how the songs came together--it's the visual half of the record. on the other hand, the super-special-edition book is packed with exclusive images, stories of the making of the songs, gorgeous art, the CD and a DVD that tells the story, showing the actual moments of inspiration caught on camera. for me, it's almost hard to imagine anyone really experiencing this album without that part of it.
even the song sequence alone is very important. it's WAY different to hear the songs in a random order than to listen to this record from beginning to end. at the very least, if you've already downloaded the songs, do us a huge favor and listen to them in the right order...it'll be way more rewarding :)
...that's all we wanted to say. if any of you want to be patient and hold off on downloading the album, and get the proper experience by checking out the actual piece in your hands, we applaud you for your restraint! and to everyone else who can't wait: we can't help but understand, because we're just as excited about this album coming out as you are. either way, thanks for listening, and being a fan of our music.
thanks for supporting the band, see you on tour!

I've preordered mine, I'd rather hear it on the 14th. Think of Meteora, listen to it in any old order doesn't do it justice. On the album it all kinda blended together and stuff.
Yayness.

Dear Mike
First, I have to say that I'm Belgian and that I'm a big fan of LP, since Xero!
I'm sorry, but I downloaded M2M: 4 years after "Meteora", I could not wait any more... But I'm going to buy it, don't worry.
M2M is good, and I know that you want to make a different style of music...But why??? Why to abandon Nu Metal??? You always refused this label, but LP was really a group of Nu Metal: rap with rock, electro music with drums and "heavy guitars",..Now is LP a group of Pop Rock: Leave Out All The Rest is Pop Rock, Shadow Of The Day is Pop Rock, What I've Done is Pop Rock, Valentine's Day is Pop Rock, In Between is Pop Rock, In Pièces is Pop Rock, and The Little Things Give You Away is Pop Rock.
You wanted to be a unique group, with a unique music, but finally, you became a commonplace group of...Pop Rock. Before you was a unique groupe: not another guys played Nu Metal with Rap, Rock, Electro, Punk, Pop,...
But...you make the music which you like and that's important
And I like all the same M2M ;)
- A big fan of LP

Well, If it makes you feel any better, I haven't listend to any of it. This time, I think, I'll just wait till the album comes out. Though, I may not be able to get it right when it comes out, cause I don't have any money. And since you guys were excited about making the album a surpise... I ain't doing shit.

Mike i understand that you gotta do what you gotta do but next time balance things out. Make it 50/50 so both rock and pop fans can enjoy this album. And 11 songs??? (not including wake) im sure you and LP could have bumped it up to 13. But either way i like the songs and im still gonna buy the album.
I just dont want LPs career to die cause LP got me into rock and LP is my fav band.

dear mike,
I hope you'll read this (with all those replies). i just want to say that even if the album leaked, i'm still gona buy it. first time I heard it I wasn't desapointed, i was just Suprised and confiused of the new sound that you've made. it took me some time to come back to the reality. but it's still great and afther a day, when i heard it again, I accepted it, more than that it calme me down. I know that I'm not the first to tell you this, but your music realy helped me in the past and still do today, Hybrid Theory was the first rock album I've ever bougth and I'm still listening to it today and whit love afther 5 years. It helped me a lot to evacuate the stress and pain that was inside of me and I think that MTM will finaly make it go away. Your music is aolso showed me a whole new world, the world of music and I hope that one day I'll make it a way of living.
MTM is a big change in you're style but it is a great record and on live, the sounds will be 10times better, you'll rock the world and the hardcore-fans will always be whit you.
that's all man, keep beeing who you are and do what you love and making great music. hope I'll finaly see you one day on stage. take care.

Tbh, if you're disapointed about it being leaked, why did you allow it? I mean, c'mmon, my 320kbps release of this album has been online for ages, you could have requested straight away for me to remove the leak, but no. So to me it seems you don't actually care about the leak, it just sounds like you're in it for the money.
The moment i released it on ftp it got 100s of downloads, and was leaked publicly within 7 mins of the release, but still, noone asked me to remove it, so do you actually care?
This album is much different to the others, but I actually like it. Thats why I bought myself a few copies, even though I already have it on disk.
Just download the release, they obviously dont care.
*In this post, i'm just asking why I was never asked to remove the leak, if you seem so damn bothered about it. Im not here to start an arguement or anything. If you, band members, now want me to remove it, I will. But why didn't anyone say anything when it first leaked?*
