Mark wakefield?

Hi guys, ive just joined the forums even though ive been a fan since 05 ^_^ Hehe, anyway. When Linkin Park were Xero, before chaz (happy 32nd!) there was Mark Wakefield who was the singer. After he left, does anyone know what hes doing or if Linkin park are still in contact with him? I just would really like to know what happened to him! thanks!

Mark turned to the business side of things, he went on to become a key player at Zomba Music, his most high-profile job being manager/A&R director for the band Taproot. Taproot and LP are pretty good friends, so I'd imagine Mark still sees the rest of the band from time to time. He still gets thanked in the credits for all of LP's albums too.

and why did Mark leave the band? Was it his desicion or LP "invited him to leave"

From all accounts I've heard, it was kind of a mutual thing. Apparently Jeff Blue (Xero's manager) thought Mark wasn't really cut out to be a frontman for a rock band and wasn't pulling his weight, and since Mark never really made an effort to go anywhere as a performing artist after Xero, he probably didn't really want the fame or anything.

i never actually thought of it under that point of view. I don't think it's THAT extreme... they'd still be into music, having their band an all, i don't know how popular they'd have become but they wouldnt be known as LP, that's for sure.

Mike contributed quite a bit to their songs. The songs on the Xero tape formed the base of the later songs that came on the albums. So he's definitely not stupid. And if he hadn't had the sense to leave Chester would never have joined them xD

Phoenix isn't in the pic because he probably wasn't in the band at that point. It's never been established exactly when Phoenix left the band to play with the Snax, it could have been before Chester joined, which would mean he left while they were still called Xero. The other guy in the picture is probably Kyle Christner, who was their replacement bass player for Phoenix for a while (Kyle played bass on the HTEP). I don't know which one is Mark and which one is Kyle though, the guy on the right is Jeff Blue.

Mark works for Velvet Hammer management. He manages System Of A Down, Deftones, Cypress Hill, Alice In Chains, and a few other bands. He's also got a wicked sense of humor.
