The first time i listened to given up i loved it...
i was searching through youtube listening to the songs on the album like SOTD and LOATR... didnt like them much
then i heard given up and no more sorrow from that AOL session thing... seriously, i thought given up and no more sorrow would be quiet emo songs because of the names.
Anyway i got sick of given up real fast... i dunno why.
has anyone here got sick of it too?

Nah,it's still good.
Don't get bored of Given Up yet dude.
The single's not out yet and you're bored?A little too soon?
But if the single's already out,well...Maybe...Just maybe...I'd get tired of hearing GU.

?Why?Well, this song is great. But it's not those songs you can play over and over again without getting bored. So I get it.That's why I haven't listened to GU for a while.

I looooove Easier to Run too.But that thing fortunately didn't happen to me.
Maybe you should stop hearing LP for maybe 3-5 months, see if you still like it.It'll give you some new perspectives to the music I guess and it'll refresh your mind.
But I'd die if I'd do that cause LP is my escape.(as lame as it sounds)

I totally disagree. I was obsessed with this song when I first heard it and now, though I am slightly less obsessed, I can still listen to it over and over.

I don't really get sick of songs very easily cause I don't like to overdo a song =P you shouldn't just listen to 2 - 3 songs forever and then get so tired of it that you never want to hear it again!

Nope.
I thought it was great at first.
Stopped listening for a few months.
And I still think it's great.

They need to take Wake/Given Up out of the live setlist and play Figure.09 / Papercut / A Place For My Head every show :)

Given up is one of my favorite songs on Mtm. I might eventually get sick of it if I keep playing it over and over again. Its very catchy. Sometimes I find myself tapping the clap beat. ACROMNYMS!!!!!!

given up is too emo for me, no more sorrow should've been the new single.

it's probably the catchy guitar or chester's catchy vocals. just a guess.

i don't know which of the gazillion threads on "given up" i should say this in so i chose this one;
i liked "given up" when i first heard it. i liked it when i got the album.
and i love it ten times more than that right now 'cause it's a f**king awesome song, man!

Given Up = ultimate wraith. All it needs is a sick brake down with chester going OH!, right before it. Brads a horrible guitarist anyways so brakedowns are right up his ally :P.
how are you a linkin park fan if you don't like the hard stuff?
acronyms and leet speak FTW bebyy.
ok how can you be sick of it already? I have the CD and its amazing. I listen to it all the time

its not really emo, im not sure wut it is

03-20-2008, 07:59 PM
Well, I hate to admit it...but it is sort of emo. People put that label on everything they don't like, and half the time it isn't justified AT ALL. In the case of Given Up...c'mon, he wants to be put out of his misery. Anything involving wanting to die or kill yourself pretty much falls into that category.
Like I said earlier...I love this song. Since the day I got MTM back in May, I've always been able to kick back and enjoy the song. Yeah, the lyrics aren't that great, but Chester's voice is great here. Not to mention how catchy and badass the bass and guitar in it are. The bridge and 17 sec scream are enough to make me want to hit repeat 5 times.

Given Up is the worst song on the album after Bleed It Out. Why?
SotD, LOATR > Given UP for emo lovers
No More Sorrow > Given Up in terms of catchy music
In Pieces > Given Up in guitar sounds
And the rest of the songs can't be compared to Given Up, except Bleed It Out, but the only thing that makes it better than Bleed It Out is Chester's 17 sec scream.

LP does make great stuff but sadly Minutes to Midnight classifies as emo. What the band wanted to convey through the lyrics doesn't matter even half as much as what the lyrics convey on their own. With songs like SotD and LOATR it makes a perfect soundtrack for slitting your wrists

Haha, I do that too when I don't want to get sick of songs. I kind of manage to get sick of songs I really like that I don't think I could ever get sick of it... :-S I love Easier To Run though, and I don't think I'll get sick of Given Up, I think it's easily the best one on the album.

WTF? Given Up & BIO I understand...but how the fuck is LOATR emo? So, a song about wanting to be remembered as a good person and leaving all of your wrongs behind is emo? Wow, that's just great. By your logic, songs like I'll Be Missing You by Puff Daddy are emo, too. This just pisses me off because this is a beautiful song that I can really connect with because I lost my father and this song matches my relationship with him. So, a song about a loved one talking from beyond the grave is emo? Wow.
You know what? I just thought of something. Everybody who dies or is dying is emo. Case closed.

excuse me?, first of all "no more sorrow" is kinda punk political. listen to the lyrics. Given Up on the other hand is a good song cause its different because of the 17-18 scream. one more thing LP isn't "emo", emos are faggots. LP is alternative rock/rap rock. LP just wanted 2 try something new on "minutes to midnight", but i hope they go back into nu metal or rap/rock. yea m2m isn't my favorite album, but there are a few songs which i like. oh btw i forget to mention "hands held high" which u can relate b/c it is rap/rock 1st of all and second its gotta power political msg too:P

LOATR can easily be mistaken for a goodbye message from someone who wants to commit suicide. I'm not saying LP wrote it from that point of view, but that's how it'll be interpreted by people who hear it for the first time.

christ... Every time I see your signature I start cracking up.
Anyways, I'm not sick of Given Up. The riffs before the screams sound like the music in Jaws a little bit.
If you are that bored with the song, try listening to it backwards. If you, or anyone else here has heard Faint backwards, then you'll find Given Up reversed just as funny. (Faint reversed is great cause Chester sounds like, violently pissed, and it instantly reminds me of the popper stopper joke)
