View Full Version : What was your reaction to Linkin Park?

I'm feeling brave today, so I've decided to actually make a thread in the LPMB. I first heard about Linkin Park when my little brother brought home the first album. I've heard about the band being some sort of rap and metal mix from someone, so I was expecting something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abg2vOQTYrA Anyway, when my brother played the album, I was quite... well... I really didn't get into it at first and I just dismissed them as some new trendy band that probably won't make it after two years. I sort of ignored Reanimation considering it was simply a remix of Hybrid Theory, although the video for Pts.Of.Athrty was pretty cool. Come 2003, I kept hearing about works of a new album from them. I picked up the CD/DVD combo pack of Meteora and gave the band a second chance. It was then that I've decided to get Hybrid Theory along with Live in Texas that Christmas. Why Christmas? Well... mostly due to money and why not get stuff for free anyway? Have some fun stories? Share them here? Want to complain about the thread? Well... there is this back button at the top of the web page you can click on. It should send you back to the forums listing.

My first LP song was In The End and I got HT for Xmas in 2001, a year after it's release

I fell in love with HT the first time I listen to it. I haven't heard any single of theirs before, it's just the whole CD that caught my heard. I remember taking that CD up from the record store cause I read somewhere about Chester's voice. But back home, turn the volume up to loud, I forgot about it. I was melted in the general sound and bang. That's my story. *nods* I guess that's why I'm more into Mike (the sound master) than Chester, tho Chester's still the man.

I didn't give LP a second glance when I heard them, mostly because I wasn't into rock back then, but secondly because I just thought they sucked =/
Fast-forward about 3 years and I heard my friend play Easier To Run, which I heard somewhere else, he let me listen, and I liked them since.

well when I hard Linkin Park for the 1st time I didn't think that it is something serious i mean a rock band or something cuz my first LPsong was Numb. I liked it and it was like love for a first sight=) I sang it day and night and than I loaded a ringtone on my cellphone. Everything changed when my friend brought a CD with all albums and she just asked: Do U listen Linkin Park? I sad yeah just because I wanted to hear numb once again. But when I started to listen aother songs I WAS SHOKED!!! That was like... I can't explain... Like a whole nature just in one song. Such a strangth of voice, lyrics, music and emotions so I fall in love with this music. Since that time I'm with LP wherever I go.

I've like LP's songs immediately! First time I has heard "Cure for the itch" from piracy album "Project revolution: the remixes". It was 3 year ago.

I heard One Step Closer in February of 2001. I saw the video once on MTV, and a few days later heard it on the radio. I thought it was pretty sweet, so I went out and got the CD soon afterwards.

my first contact was OSC on MTV... i thought they're full of crap. Then I saw 5 secs of Crawling on some MTV VMAs and thought it was ok. Then, after hearing people talking about this cool new song "In The End"...i had learnt the lyrics even before ever listening to the actual song... one day i came across the video in MTV and absolutely fall in love with the song. Bought the album the next day (the first album i ever bought) and loved it. Best 13 dls ever spent. That day my life changed.

I've never thought of them as metal. They're unique with their sound (I think), well maybe not now. I never thought of them as any particular kind of music actually. btw - I 1st heard them in 2001 and bought the album soon after. I fell in love with the music straight away. It was a different sound to all the old and hard rock, and reggae I am into.

They were getting popular at my school in 5th grade and I heard that they were rock/rap. Then one day i was watching and Somewhere I Belong came out. Their style was very original and I was instantly hooked to their style I liked it a lot to tell you the truth and I thought it was the best song I've heard from them untill I heard One Step Closer, Crawling, or In The End and way more songs. However, back then I never bought their CDs too much I was too into DMX. Then in 06, I started to listen to more rock/metal and I wanted to buy every LP CDs out in the store.

True. But Brad's guitar tone does sound metalish on some songs (Papercut, By Myself, and maybe some other songs)
But I look LP more like Hard Rock and Rap.

I first heard of LP when my son was a toddler and heard Crawling on the radio .. he kept saying to me 'i like dong!' (he was about 1 and a half i think). I had ofc missed it so had to wait for it to come on again, but wasn't sure what i was listening out for until my son went crazy again! I was hooked straight away! I bought HT and all the others since then. My husband and i went to see them in Birmingham about 3 or 4 years again, and Nottingham this year. They just keep getting better :)

PS. My son is nearly 12 and still loves them as much as i do :)

It's worth pointing out that Hybrid Theory did get many, many people into heavier music though, whether most will admit it or not.

My first impressions of LP weren't too great. I didn't get into Crawling at all, and even now it's one of my least favourite LP songs (the Reanimation remix isn't too bad though).

So yeah, I kinda skipped the entirety of Hybrid Theory because I wasn't fond at all, then went and bought Reanimation because I liked the Points of Authority remix, and it bankrolled from there. Bought Meteora, and was initally disappointed by just how short it was, but there isn't really any filler on it, so I can live with it now.

I don't think I could ever say that Linkin Park are one of my favourite bands, but that's probably because I got into them after initially disliking them. Maybe the fourth album will turn them into one of my fav's, because MTM had a really good crack at it, and came very close.

I heard them a few times in 2001 over radio and the like. I wasn't too into them then, but regardless i bought the HT album, and wasn't too fussed at the time. Then Meteora came and well, numb blew my head off, and well from there i grew to like just about every song they have today, including all of MTM. :)

I heard In The End in seventh grade. Our music class assignment was to bring in a song that relates to you. Then write what the song means to you while playing it back to the class. About 15 out of 30 kids brought in In The End. All class long. In The End. For 35 minutes...jesus. Got me into LP, though. My bro bought the album and we "shared" it.

I think 'In the End' was my first song as well and it was actually my brother who came up with Linkin Park. Although I didn't really understand the lyrics, the music perfectly fit into my emotional mood. I felt special somehow because I thought this was good music whereas every girl was into Pop/Charts.

Well I just heard the band's name somewhere so I did a search on youtube and heard their song "numb". I fell in love with it and that's how it all started. I am now such a big fan!!! I did hear their songs before, just that I din't know they were by so I sorta dismissed them until I heard "numb" and stuff.

When I listened to LP,I was like:
MAN,this guy can scream!The 1st thing that I realized was Chester's scream.
I liked how Mike raps without having to swear every single second.I started out pretty normal,I liked the songs and that's probably it.Now I'm obsessed!Everyone who knows me knows that I'm an LP freak. It's contagious!I even managed to make my sisters like them! And they don't like LP...They hate them cause I love them.

Back in 2002 I was watching MTV (God forbid) and a song called In The End by some group called Linkin Park came on. At the end (groan...) of the song I was going "OMG...that was amazing". I got a karoake machine for Christmas (-_-) and it had In The End on it and I sang that LOTS. Anyways back in '06 I found a cool Numb/Encore vid using Phoenix Wright.
And then I brought their albums

I had just split up from my then girlfriend and had alot of mixed up emotions running inside my head.

I heard OSC on the radio and that was it....it was like a bomb exploding in my brain. I was totally hooked on the track, I couldn't wait for HT to come out and when it did, I snapped it up and it didn't leave my CD player or walkman, I took it around everywhere with me.

HT helped me get over a very dark and depressing time and I came out of it a totally new person. As many people have stated on the boards here before, everyone can identify with LP's lyrics in some form or another.

LP are the most incredible band in the world!!!! ;)

Seven years ago... Don't really remember other than how much I really liked their video for In The End and wanted to take Mike home and keep him because in that video he was freaking adorable and I know this is a run-on sentence and I don't care.

Oooh! I remember hearing "Crawling" on the radio for the first time right after it was released on the way back from my dad's friends torturing me with church ... and I was just like, "Wow. This is me." I accidentally bought my dad the CD that Christmas, and I kept sneaking it into my room, so he eventually gave it to me :D

Before I heard any Linkin Park's songs, I don't really like the band...
(someone told me the band sucks... I forgot who was it >_>)
because I thought the band only produces metal/hardcore songs...
But when I heard to "what I've done"... (I was crazy, reaaal crazy about that song)
and I was like "WHAT THE HECK?! AND ALL THIS LONG I THOUGHT LINKIN PARK HAS THE WORST SONGS!"
Then I just... IN LOVE WITH THEIR SONGS!

Sadly, my family doesn't like Linkin Park's songs~~ ):
(Partly because I listen to their songs everyday, and they got irritated! ><)

Someone once mentioned Linkin Park to me, and at that time I didn't even know they existed. So I decided to check who they were and found the video of Numb on Youtube. And I was like WOW! Then I listened to a few more of their songs and told my dad (being broke) that I really like Linkin Park and that they are releasing a new album, Minutes to Midnight. And being the kind person that my dad is, well he bought the album for me.:D

Great idea for your first thread.

My reaction to LP was that I loved In The End. I loved how two guys sung/rapped the vocals. I thought it was brill the way it switched between Mike and Chester{who I only knew as the blonde guy and the dark haired one then}. I thought they looked really angry and they actually scared me at first. Crawling was interesting cos I kept getting it mixed up with a song by Papa Roach. It took a while for me to get into that song but now I love it.

It was today I last thanked aloud LP for making What I've Done's vid. That vid made me think like "wow, finally a band that thinks the same as I". Plus I liked the song a lot. I had heard LP's songs before but hadn't paid attention to 'em. During those few months I listened to WID I got interested in band's other music and soon (in July 07) bought HT and Meteora.

Kinda difficult to remember other than it started about the time when Reanimation was out I think. I borrowed Hybrid Theory from my friend and got into them more and more. LP was the first band that I really got into and always the one I come back to. Itīs cool to see how the old songs still get new meanings or you find different things in them (as a kid I didnīt really understand that much, naturally). So Iīve grown up my teen years with the band and so even though the oldies kick hard still, I "grow" into/with the "new style" too.

Also I think the versitility of the band and changing of the band makes it easier for an LP fan to get into more and very diferent kind of music.

(referring to what Mike or someone said somewhere) Stick the nu metal in your ass!

Haha I remember the first time I heard Linkin Park was on MTV UK Select back in the day when Select was still a show. I remember they were #1 on the Select chart for about three weeks with One Step Closer. The first time I heard One Step Closer - I absolutely hated it! Hahaha but, for some reason I felt compelled to find out more about the band (I thought Chester had an amazing voice) a quick search online led me to find Crawling. I downloaded it out of curiosity and was literally blown away. Fan ever since.

Granted, in recent years I've grown out of my insane diehardLPfan ways, but they're playing near me soon and it made me all nostalgic, so I wandered back on here :)

My first reaction wasn't a great one.

The very first introduction I had to them was through Video Hits, and One Step Closer was a new video release. I quite liked the song (which was odd, because back then I was a massive teeny bopper) but the band scared the hell outta me! Chester and Mike were really freaky in the chorus, so I always used to change the channel when the video came on! Of course, many years later, I can say that I am no longer afraid of the video. haha!

In The End was the first song that really got me into them.

i first heard of linkin park when i was 9 years old .. the first song i heard from them was "somewhere i belong" .. as a kid of course my taste for music was different . i thought LP's songs are "noisy" and crappy .. but 3 years later i realized heck, they are not crappy and they are awesome! :D

If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be so much into rock right now. So for me, they opened up a whole new genre for me. Cause I used to think that rock was just noise and screaming. I didn't know that some rock had a sentimental side to it which almost any one can relate to!

When I first heard In The End, I didn't have an idead that it's from LP. But the first song that caught me was Points Of Authority and I just found out later on that it's LP's.
