View Full Version : Paris Hilton enters jail

Paris Hilton is now in jail. She will serve a 2 or 3 week sentance but will be in a special part of the jail for rich celebs. I dont agree with the special treatment...i think she should be treated like you or I would and be put in a regular jail cell. Rich people in america get treated so much better when it comes to the law...if this was an average person like us then we would have a much longer jail sentance and would be in a regular cell with all the rest of the people. So i was wondering if she will be on probation after jail then or what...will she get drug tested? I sure hope so cause i bet she would fail a drug test and get in more trouble. I hate how so many people look up to these low life rich celebs with all the special treatment. Down with Hollowood!

She didn't "get off way too lightly". The prisons in California are overpopulated, so something minor like what she got busted for isn't exactly a priority. Plenty of people that get busted for the same thing are let go thanks to the surplus of people in the prisons. The fact that she got 20-something days in jail is proof enough that her family's money doesn't mean shit.

hahha my sister told me about the joke of paris hilton at the movie awards......but didnt saw paris face...........
Whether she's famous or not, the state is legally obligated to ensure her safety. Someone as popular and famous as her wouldn't be safe in a regular jail cell, thus the "special" treatment.

It's not just rich people in America that get treated better than "normal" people, it's the same in the UK. At least she got convicted. Pete bloody Doherty would have got locked up a long time ago if he was anyone not in the public eye. It really pisses me off that they get treated any better. If anything, they should be made an example of so that young people who look up to them are shown that their behaviour is wrong, and not "cool".

Yeah alot of rich people seem to be above the law and that bothers me. I know people that did the same thing as paris and they sat in jail for like 6 months for it....she got like 2 weeks out of it.....ugghhh!

No one should. Meh, what'cha gonna do? We can't do much.

She's not getting special treatment, you fucking morons. It's been reported plenty of times about the overpopulation in California prisons and it's rather often that people with charges as minor as hers usually don't spend much time, if any at all, in prison. They're lucky they got her in there for 20-some odd days, when it was being reported that it was unlikely she'd be in there for more than a couple days.
I couldn't find the exact statistic I was looking for, so I'm improvising using the only data I could find (http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/ascii/dwiocs.txt) (1997). From what I can tell, the average sentence length of DWI offenders was 11 months in 1997, but they noted that a) they probably overestimated the average sentence length (find "average sentence" and read that paragraph) and b) that's data from ten years ago and I believe it's national, whereas California has a bigger problem with jail overcrowding than some other states.
I looked for a newer report and couldn't find much, though. If anyone can figure out how to open .csv files, these two should be good:
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/data/ncrpt02.zip
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/data/ncrps02.zip
time served + sentence length for 2002.
Ironically, the fact that I'm a little tipsy may have skewed the data.

she's a stupid spoiled wh*re, and she will probably go out partying when she gets out and throw a "i'm not in jail anymore" and try to get people to notice her and feel sorry for her cause she went to jail. and you know do the "paris" thing, fuck up and not care about others. i'm glad she's in jail, even if its just for 2 or 3 weeks, but i still think she should have served the full sentence.

that's only if you cause a serious accident, will you get time. I have a friend who's on his third DUI and hasnt' gotten jail time at all. Next one might, or might not, depending on how full the jails are...
As for Paris...here's a quote from the Associated Press.
"Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said.
Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said."
She's not getting special treatment, really, just not in with the general population, for her own safety, like everyone else in her area. The Menendez brothers and Manson are also on the same type of cell blocks.

Looks like the only special treatment this girl gets is being alone....and I dunno if being totally alone 23 hours a day after having her life style is a good thing...It would seem it's a bad one... Here's the article.
"Paris Hilton begins jail term a day early
By Steve Gorman
Mon Jun 4, 7:32 PM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - From the camera flashes on the red carpet of a Hollywood awards show to the walls of a jail cell -- what a difference a day makes when you're Paris Hilton.
The 26-year-old heiress, a symbol of privilege and American celebrity culture, was booked into a Los Angeles County jail early on Monday, a day ahead of her court-ordered deadline, to begin serving a three-week sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
She surrendered to authorities in downtown Los Angeles hours after making a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, and was transferred to the Century Regional Detention Facility in nearby Lynwood, the county sheriff's department said.
Once there, she was fingerprinted, photographed and issued an ID wristband, orange-colored jail clothing and toiletries, said sheriff's department Sgt. Diane Hecht in a statement.
Hecht said the booking for Hilton, whose great-grandfather Conrad Hilton started the global Hilton Hotel empire, was completed by about 1 a.m. PDT (4 a.m. EDT/0800 GMT) on Monday.
Her booking photo showed her dressed in a white V-neck top, wearing eye makeup and lip gloss with a slight smile, her blond hair swept to one side over her right shoulder.
Sheriff's department spokesman Steve Whitmore described her as "cooperative," "calm" and "focused" during booking.
TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
"This is an important point in my life, and I need to take responsibility for my actions," Hilton said in a statement issued by her lawyer. "Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."
Her lawyer, Richard Hutton, said after a jailhouse visit with Hilton on Monday that she "is doing well" and that she intended to use her time to reflect on her life and decide how she can "make the world a better place."
Hecht said Hilton will be kept alone in her cell, an enclosure 8 feet wide, 12 feet deep and 8 feet high, equipped with two bunks, a sink, a small table, a slit window and a metal toilet.
Whitmore has said Hilton would be treated like any other prisoner at the jail, which houses roughly 2,200 women. But she has been segregated from the general population in a "special-needs" unit designed for high-profile inmates.
The star of reality TV's "The Simple Life" will be confined to quarters 23 hours a day, with an hour each day outside her cell to stretch her legs, take a shower, use the telephone or watch television in a jailhouse day room.
It's a far cry from Hilton's last day of freedom, during which she attended the MTV Movie Awards in a black, strapless gown, posing on a red carpet before throngs of photographers.
Hilton was arrested for drunken driving in September, and in January she pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of alcohol-related reckless driving. She was sentenced to three years' probation and had her license suspended.
But the heiress was caught driving in February. A traffic court judge ruled on May 4 that Hilton's latest offense was a probation violation and sentenced her to 45 days in jail.
Sheriff's officials said they expected her to complete her term in 23 days under state guidelines that give most inmates a day's credit against their sentence for each day they serve with good behavior.
Hutton said the judge singled out Hilton for excessively stiff punishment because of her celebrity.
On the news, her only visitors allowed will be her parents.

Yeah, a lot of times it's just huge fines, license revoked, etc. I think her license was already suspended though, thus the jail time. And I think the stats I had were averaged only for the people who were sentenced at all rather than given probation and community service.
Is there a difference between DWI and DUI? I know in Colorado we have both DUI and a DWAI (driving while ability impaired) that carry different sentences so I'm not sure what they were looking at for stats.

DUI = driving under the influence
DWI = driving while intoxicated....that could mean any substance that will impair your judgement, even prescription medication (like valium or vicoden)
Some states use them interchangably, as they really are. California only uses DUI.

Hammer of Justice Crushes You

Lady Justice Has Been Raped
Truth Assassin
Rolls of Red Tape Seal Your Lips
Now You're Done in
Their Money Tips Her Scales Again
Make Your Deal
Just What Is Truth? I Cannot Tell
Cannot Feel
Justice Is Lost

Paris Hilton out of jail for medical reasons
By Steve Gorman
Steve Whitmore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office declined to specify the medical issue that led to her "reassignment" or say why she could not be treated in jail.
Citing sources close to Hilton's family, the syndicated TV show "Entertainment Tonight" reported on its Web site that the health problem was a rash that she developed on her body.
Los Angeles County detention facilities, like many jails around the country, are known to have problems controlling outbreaks of staphylococcus infections, which can cause rashes, but Whitmore said staph was not an issue in Hilton's case.
Whitmore said only that Hilton's move was done after extensive consultation among various parties involved, including the sentencing judge and the sheriff.
HOME CONFINEMENT
Under the home-confinement order, her sentence was increased back to 45 days, but Whitmore said she would be credited with five days incarceration, including Sunday and Thursday, even though she actually only spent three full days in jail.
"My understanding is that she's confined to her home with an ankle bracelet, she cannot leave that facility," said Whitmore. "She will fulfill the remainder of her time confined to her home."

Ankle bracelette....it's a HUGE thing on your ankle, that you cannot break off or the alarm will go off. There's a box they put in the center of the house (usually near the TV or telephone) and if you go more than 100 feet from that box, the alarm sounds at the sheriff, or whomever is in charge, and they call the house, and send out a unit. It's also a GPS unit. If her house is as big as I think, she can't even go in the backyard and enjoy the pool! Once they set up the rig, you cannot move the box.
They also call you once or twice a day, and you MUST answer the phone. They won't tell you what time, but if you don't answer, a unit is right there.
I had a neighbor with one a while back. He could go to our front yard (duplex) but only a few feet into it. We found the borderline the hard way. :D
