Yep, you read that right. You're all going to get treated (regardless whether you want it or not) to what BruceH thinks of the new LP album. Track by track. Occasionally line by line. And when he's really pedantic, BruceH will spout Nietzsche in an attempt to justify his views, because Nietzsche has a large moustache, and is therefore, always right. Nice intro track. Soft and calm enough, but also just keeps my interest with the addition of that noise that sounds like a synthesises rain drop or triangle.. or something. Really picks up to the end. Quite epic sounding, and a nice boner enducing start to the album.

Given Up

Very nice - quick verse followed by the kind of Chester many fan girls dream of fathering their children. Chester's voice sounds amazing after the second chorous. This song certainly put me out of my misery after reading such harsh reviews of this album. Kick ass song.

Leave Out All The Rest

I LOVE this song. A huge welcome change to the Linkin Park we're used to. The chorous especially makes me adore this song. "And don't resent me, and when you're feeling empty, keep me in your memory, leave out all the rest." LINKIN PARK HAVE ACTUALLY MADE A SONG I WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF :p (!!!). Possibly the best song on the album. More please! More!!

Bleed it Out

Very very nice. It's nice to hear Mike rapping over Brad's guitar riffs again after such a long break. I love the clapping, and when it breaks to Chester, this song really comes alive. Good song, nice solid effort - if there's one thing I have to nitpick over, which I do, it could've been longer, and I'd like to hear more scratching in it from Joe.

Shadow of the Day

When I first heard this song, I was sure my iTunes had skipped to a Mellowdrone song, but lo and behold, it was still Linkin Park. I love the softer melodic Linkin Park that is beginning to shine. Chester's voice is fantastic, and after his 'OoooOOOh!' this song hits the best bit as he goes on to voice the songs title. Another solid song, very much on the 'Top Most 25 Played' list on iTunes now. Perhaps drags on for too long, but the crescendo towards the end is well worth the long-ish time.

What I've Done

I wasn't sure about this song when it was released as a single, although it did grow on me. Hearing it along with it's partners in crime makes it sound even better. The bit when the guitars come in always makes me start rocking my head. Well worked song. The verses and chorous are nice. A small step forward from Hybrid Theory and Meteora, but a nice return to the heavier(ish) side of LP on this record.

Hands Held High

Mike finally gets a chance to impersonate Eminem with this 'Like Toy Soldiers' drum part that continues throughout the song, and criticism of government. I'm not complaining however, I love this song. Mike has really come on leaps and bounds (not literally, kids), since his Hybrid Theory days. Moving on from the angst ridden lines from HT and Meteroa, addressing a wider global issue puts this song firmly up their with the best tracks. I especially like the choir/voice thing in between his verses. Linkin Park albums should be longer, so Mike can do this type of thing more often. And to hear Mike sing as well really rounds this song off =P

No More Sorrow

Nice to have a heavy track after a soft yet hard hitting rap monologue from Mike. Perhaps starts too slow, but gradually gets better. Still, although I love the heavy metal mix here, it is a nice change from the Meteora rock sound we're so used to, I think this could be so much better than it is. We know LP are capable of putting out fantastic rock tracks, but on this one, it seems like they held back. It's frustrating. I also dislike the bridge at 2:30, too boring. But that being said, it's a solid heavy track amidst a softer sounding album.

Valentine's Day

Very nice. Chesters voice in this reminds me of his haunting self in 'Krwling' and 'Runaway'. I like listening to the lyrics throughout this, and when it all comes to a head with Chester belting out the title, this song really delivers. Not their best effort by a long shot, but a nice ballad none the less.

In Between

J'ADORE!! J'ADORE!! Mike sings again! This song is fantastic, in every way. If it were a person, it'd be the proud owner of a restraining order with my name on it. If it could be breakfast, it would be cornflakes on gravy. The piano that comes in, or whatever it is, really makes me tingle. I love this. More like this next time! Lots more. The live strings on this track are also nice.

In Pieces

ORGASM. This song is possibly my favourite song now. Even beating that sex god we all know (well... I know) (and no, I don't know him THAT way. You sick bastard.) called Miyavi and his song "Selfish Love". The chorous has me singing along and feeling the hair tingle on my arms. The verses are magnifique, and pretty much everything about this song screams CLASSIC. This softer side of LP coupled with Chester's aggressive voice is just an amazing mix. As the song picks up tempo, it gets even better.

The Little Things Give You Away

Quite a long title for a Linkin Park song. In fact, I think it's their longest yet. Anyway, this song is a nice ender. Chester's voice is the highest I've ever heard it, probably the result of a practical joke by Mike. The lyrics are lovely, and the lack of any hard guitars or thumping bass or drums we're used to improves track. Possibly too long, but this is a good end to the album.


The Verdict

After listening to the first few songs, I just thought 'Oh joy. This has been done properly.' The entire album from start to finish is, for me, epic. A complete departure from what we're used to. And what a welcome departure it is. Not meaning that Linkin Park should abandon Meteroa and HT heavy rock, head thrashing anthems, but just that they should make their albums longer so we can have both. That's not much to ask, is it? After QWERTY, I think we were all expecting something much heavier and of the same intensity. To be honest, I'm glad that's what they didn't give us. For the next album, LP should fuse together this more melodic softer sound with their old style. That for me would be like Kirsten Dunst and Kiera Knightly in a bath together covered in chocolate.
