For those of you that judge a song by its content, did you even pay attention to this? This shows what a war can do to society if it is not addressed. Everyone can relate to this song on an emotional level.

Turn my mic up louder,
I got to say somethin.
Lightweights steppin' aside,
when we comin.
Feel it in your chest,
the syllables get pumpin.
People on the street,
they panic and start running.
Words on loose leaf,
sheet complete coming.
I jump on my mind,
I summon the rhyme Im dumping.
Feeling the blind,
I promise to let the sun in.
Sick of the dark ways,
we march to the drumming.
Jump when they tell us
they want to see jumping.
Fuck that, I want to
see some fist pumping.
Risk something.
Take back what's yours
Say something that you know
they might attack you for
cause I'm sick of being treated
like I have before.
Like it's stupid standing for
what I'm standing for.
Like this war is really just
a different brand of war.
Like it doesn't cater to the rich
and an abandoned the poor.
Like they understand you
in the back of the jet,
When you can't put gas in your tank.
These fuckers are laughing their way
to the bank and cashing their check
asking you to have compassion and to have some respect.
For a leader so nervous
in an obvious way
Stuttering and mumbling
for nightly news to replay
and the rest of the world
watching at the end of the day
in the living room laughing
like what did he say?

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen

In my living room watching,
But I am not laughing.
'Cause when it gets tense,
I know what might happen.
The world is cold,
The bold men take action.
Have to react,
To get blown into fractions.
10 years old is something to see,
Another kid my age drugged under a G,
Taken and bound and found later under a tree,
I wonder if he had thought the next one could be me.
Do you see?
The soldiers that are out today.
That brush the dust with bulletproof vests away.
It's ironic.
At times like this you pray,
But a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday.
There's bombs in the buses, bikes, roads,
inside your markets, your shops, your clothes,
My dad, he's got a lot of fear I know
but enough pride inside not to let that show.
My brother had a book he would hold with pride
A little red cover with a broken spine.
In the back he hand wrote a quote inside,
when the rich wage war, it's the poor who die.
Meanwhile, the leader just talks away
Stuttering and mumbling
for nightly news to replay
and the rest of the world
watching at the end of the day
both scared and angry
like what did he say?

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen.

With Hands Held High
into a sky so blue
the ocean opens up
to swallow you. (x5)

Tell me this song doesnt affect you on another level. this is rock, this isnt rap, this is linkin park. This is reality.

to say this is political is entirely correct. to bring attention to this war in this manner is very exceptional. I think people dont like it since its a slower song, but the content behind the song is what drives fans to connect. own it.

Actually this line as well has some merit since our President, Mr George W Bush has had multiple moments of foot-in-mouth disorder.

Its an ok-ish song. Not brilliant. Hes not saying anything other people havent said before in the same old boring way. Reminds me of toy soldiers -Eminem (Another song to be "admired" and then forgotten after listening only a few times)

Go listen to Year Zero - NINE INCH NAILS. Now that is pure political and musical genius.

See here's the thing, the whole "Only the poor suffere in war because of the rich" thing isn't really all that true now a days. There isn't a draft, no one forces the poor or anyone for that matter to join the military. It's an all volunteer force and actually quite a few members of it are middle class and very well educated. This isn't Vietnam where every man was forced to go fight. BTW this war is the LEAST BLOODY IN THE HISTORY OF WARFARE. That's something for ya to think about. I love this album but sometimes it get just a tad to political for me

While I think you're hilarious, it is actually all 6 band members blended together. I think it mentions it in the notes of the special edition booklet. =)

this is one line that we should all pay attention to. we should stand up and pump our fists instead of jumping for them, we have to risk something if not everything to take back what's ours, who cares if they might attack us or put us in jail, we have to stand up and do something to try and make change instead of being treated like youre stupid standing for what you believe

when the rich wage war, it's the poor who die.

Your thinking to litterally my brother. Think about it. The rich are the ones in power like our president, or the president of some other country. The rich are the ones who make our decisions even though they may be against what the general public voted for! The poor are the innocent lives lost such as the 500,000 plus iraqis and the 3,000 plus american lives. Now tell me you didnt think of that?
And as for the draft, nothing to do with this song and dont know why you brought it up. And you say its the "LEAST BLOODY IN THE HISTORY OF WARFARE"?? No, its not in terms of americans who voted to bring our trips home and our president VETOED the bill that the AMERICAN PUBLIC voted for.

And saying this album is "a tad too political for me". listen up. In todays world, if you are not following politics, YOU ARE THE LOST ONE MY FRIEND. AMericans have been sitting on the sidelines and its time to bring change to what we define as the freedom of america. PLease "grow up" in a sense and care more about our countrys future and the path its taking the world down. GO VOTE.

Are ya'll kidding? This is not a "song"....there is no flow, no substance, you cant dance to it, or rock along with it, or tap your foot, nothing...it's just a basic drum beat...just Mike "ranting on." Basically a church sermon. I'm a fan of LP & Mike, but come on...it's a wasted track that is simply a rhyme of his beliefs/feelings. Go on Preacher! Halleluia ! Worthless.

We also have the right NOT to vote if we dont want to. We have the right not to care.

Now listen up. IM NOT SAYING I DONT CARE. Im saying people have the right not to care.

You seem to have issues accepting other peoples freedom of speech and opinion as thier own. Your posts attempt to force your own half-baked views on the rest of us.

You also have avoided responding to all of my valid criticms made here and elsewhere. Possibly because you know I am right or maybe because you fail to understand what I am saying.

This song sucks! and I'm not talking about what it said, I'm talking about that f****ing amen thing and that way of almost-not-rapping that could be the worst song on the rising tied album (wich I loved) That is not linkin park, linkin park was a band who wisely mixed hip hop, hard rock and electronic music, this is just a good profound song of a not important pop/rock band

I think its a great song. Love the lyrics (mike did a really good job singing) and the marching type of music gives the whole thing a great contrast to it. But i kinda dont like the amen part. I think its great that all band members are singing together, but still dont get used to it for some reason.

Totally disagree, the rapping flows perfectly. Obviously this isn't something that you can rock out to, but to say it doesn't have any flow? No way. The total focus of the song is on the lyrics, and I really like the melodic singing at the end.

This little quote touch me a lot because it's true, when we have war it's poor who die:( because they live outside in the street so when bombs explode, that explode in they're face and they die. So song is really good song, I guess they did it for think about life, when I listen this song I think about the life and actually it's what I do 'cause I listen this song.

Think about it

For quite a while after MTM was released I really didn't like this song! But I realised just how amazing it was, and I really love Mike's voice in the outro. Fantasticly constructed lyrics too, second best on the album only to Little Things.

In my opinion, the power of this song is the lyric. Hip-hop/Rap is about truly feelings.. emotions.. life experience.. things you lived or opinions about reality.. Mike just made it happen.. (like always ;P) This song can really make a person think about life.. about the Real World.

I Hope they keep doing songs like this. LP's songs donīt have to be only hard rock, itīs good for the band to try new styles. I love MTM as much as I love the other albums even being a little different =)

HHH is one of my absolute favs on MTM, i think it was about time for LP to speak up and voice their opinion about this. this is definelty a subject that hits home for me, my hubby is doing his 2nd tour in iraq right now (15 month tour, been gone for over a year), only spent 2 weeks with our son since he was born. but its not just the verses that i love, the music absolutely friggin rocks too!

You're a dumbass if you think every song needs to have 5 different instruments blaring at you for it to be considered a song. Isn't every song they do based on their "feelings/beliefs" This SONG is supposed to make you think, and its an emotional song. He's not forcing you to believe what he does, he is just rapping about reality. Its one of Linkin Park's best song.
