Well I finally saw Borat and I liked it a lot. I admit I wasn't a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen before, the series were fairly mediocre and the Ali G movie was absolutely horrendous at times but this was definitely better. Some really memorable scenes and overall great entertainment all through the movie.

Borat is a funny movie - but so politically incorrect, you can see why he got beat up so many times.

I just saw Spiderman 3 and it both sucks and blows - the only good part was the brief cameo Bruce Campbell had in it (And if you've seen Evil Dead, etc. then you'll know he is a legend).
Topher Grace was funny as always.

I'm probably going to try see Redline soon cos Eddy Griffin is hilarious.
POTC3 is gonna be the bomb.
I'm really interested to see The Number 23 as I'm intrigued to see how Jim Carey pulls off this serious role.

Speaking of disappointments, Spiderman 3 let me down big time.

Let me first say that I loved the first two installments of this franchise and expected alot from the third. Basically, there was too much for one movie. It was not a tight movie at all. Subplots would turn on and off at a whim. Same can be said of both Peter Parker and Harry Osbourne. Macguire especially failed in pulling this off. The comic relief scenes were funny, but over-the-top silly. Sandman was uninteresting, and Venom was only in the movie briefly. The film also comes across as overly sappy. On the plus side, the movie itself was fairly entertaining, and the action scenes are respectable. Yet, the dropoff between 2 and 3 reminds me of what I felt after seeing Xmen 3 (a few similarities in flaws, as well).

The movie will gross a ton and its success will come straight from the first two films, but this is by far the worst of the three.

Transformers (Spielberg is producing;thats ALL im in for) Michael Bay directing the movie makes this a free frogurt type of situation.

Someone: Spielberg's producing the movie!

Someone: ..but the movie is being directed by Michael Bay.

That movie felt like it lasted for three days. It didn't feel like the show at all.

...

I wouldn't say that Spiderman 3 was awful, but it certainly wasn't up to the levels of the first two in the series. There simply wasn't enough time to include everything that they tried to. It was heavy on the action sequences and the plot development suffered because of it.

No, it wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. This is probably largeley in part to how well the first sequel went. So, it's hard not to look at the films relatively.

Two days ago I saw in TV Soviet Film from 1972 "A zori zdes tichije" (The Dawns Here Are Quiet) which was nominated on Oscar for best non-english movie even when it was film from Soviet Union and I can say only one thing: This is something what Spielberg would never do. Nothing like Pear Harbour or Darkblue world. One of the best movies with WW2 theme I ever saw (maybe better than Saving Private Ryan). First I thought that it will be some communist-propaganda war movie but I was absolutelly wrong. Now Im donwnloading "Idi i smotri" (Come and see) which as I heared is better than this....Im recommending this to everyone ;)

28 Weeks Later

Very respectable sequel. The beginning was excellent. This is probably because I was expecting a long, drawn out introduction. The movie itself is fast paced. It maintains a similar feel to the first installment, but stands on its own in several ways. New characters, entirely different circumstances and plot. I did have some gripes with this movie, though. The quality dropped off a bit from the first. Biggest problem was the movie was too short and progressed so quickly that there wasn't really much character development. It was more event-oriented and doesn't waste time to build up to the chaos. Also, the shaky cam still bothers me. I've always thought it was a horrible way to do any sort of action scene, but maybe that's just me. *shrugs* Although this may not be as well-crafted a story and film as the first movie was, it is still an intense, disturbing, and most importantly entertaining zombie-esque flick.

3.5/5 stars

Clay Pidgeons

A so-so dark comedy with Joaquin Phoenix and Vince Vaughn. Vince Vaughn is hilarious as the seemingly good-natured psycho Lester Long. The movie is filled with a series of grisly murders that seem to center around the innocent (and unfortunate) Clay (Phoenix). The story has its fair share of quirky characters and bizarre twists that constantly force Clay into dire moral dilemmas. It's a very strange sort of humor, but it did a good job keeping me laughing as well as holding my intrigue. On the downside, the climax is sort of lackluster, but all-in-all it's a very fun movie.

Saw Spiderman 3 last night. I liked it though I've never read the comic or anything so I've got nothing to compare it to. But i've enjoyed all the films. Strangely the whole Peter / Mary Jane rocky relationship thing brought up nasty memories of an old painful breakup for me which wasn't great. But that's my problem, not the films. The whole emo Peter bit was funny. Cool action scenes. Yeah, decent film.

uff just saw spiderman 3. i was ~10 times short before falling into sleep. soo boring oO. this whole peter/mj thing was just constructed as hell, harry was nothing deep, this breaking up scene was so cold >.> i mean, i was sitting there like "wtf, actor's class in first semester can do better", no feelings transported, nothing.
emo peter getting all girls dancing on the street was just stupid, we were sitting here laughing as hell.
i laughed the first movie, liked the second... the third is in my opinion on of the worst films ever

I didn't watch Spiderman 3, but I think the movie is 'okay'. But the first and second part were better. The worst of part 3 is this thing with peter and mj, terrible.( I saw the trailer and making of Spiderman 3, that was enough)

And, though it had nothing to do with the movie, the guy behind me translating the hole thing into another language for his mate was quite irritating.

What the fuck ever happened to Richard? I wanna tell him that Gangs Of New York totally got me interested in Daniel Day Lewis' work. He was awesome as Bill the Butcher.

A Scanner Darkly - 3/5
Candy for the eye so to speak but the ending was fairly weak.

Alpha Dog - 3.5/5
I thought it was quite good actually, apparently most of it was based on the real thing so it was actually quite morbid. Justin Timberlake was decent actually although I mostly felt he wasn't really acting, just playing himself really.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - 3/5
Slightly better then the first movie and some really memorable scenes. Still flawed with the whole lets make a third movie story, also definitely too long.

Why are there so many people complaining about movie length lately? Three hours at the most is fine, anything above that is stretching it. Most (good) movies are up to, if not a little over, two hours, and I'm sure most of you sit on your ass for up to, if not more than, three hours straight (no breaks) every day when you're in front of a computer.

well today's youth can't sit still for long so that is why ppl complain, i guess. 3 hours is a big commitment and i definitly consider movie length before i go see it because you never know what you're going to get. like titanic....not worth my time. lord of the rings, hell yea.

Anyone seen The Departed? Because it was fucking excellent. Scorsese deserved every bit of that Oscar win for that movie.

DiCaprio, Nicholson, Damon, Baldwin, Sheen, hell.. Even Mark fucking Wahlberg was great in this movie. Leo really is probably one of the, if not THE, best of this generation's actors, I'd say.

5/5 from me.

And to Richard, if you ever get back on these boards, I must say: I don't know how you ever could've said you were disappointed in DiCaprio in this movie. Of all the films I've seen him in, this was the best form he's ever been. And that's saying something, cause I think he's gotten really, really good over the years. He just let it all out and it was just intense.

Damon was equally so, but it was more of a suppressed type of deal and he played it to a T.

I'm really looking forward to this:

Spielberg, Jackson to Make 'Tintin' Movies

Directors will make 3 films about Belgian comic-strip hero

The well-known movie directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson will develop a new film project about the famous Belgian comic-strip hero Tintin. They revealed their plans in Variety, a magazine about the entertainment scene.

More specifically, the two directors wish to make three movies about Tintin and his little dog Snowy. Each filmmaker will direct at least one movie; the answer on the question of which director will direct the third movie is not known yet. Moreover, it is not known which of the 23 comics of the Belgian comic-strip hero will be chosen for the movies.

Spielberg is considered one of the most famous fans of the Tintin comics. Already in the 80s he bought the rights to produce a movie about Tintin, while Herge, the Belgian creator of Tintin, was still alive. Normally the movie would have been released then, but when Herge heard that Spielberg might not personally direct the film himself, he refused to give his further approval and canceled the project.

In spite of all this, Spielberg never gave up and persevered in his passionate dream to film Tintin. And now, after almost 25 years, there seems to be a break-through in the project. Together with his colleague, movie director and fellow Tintin fan, Peter Jackson, known for his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Herge's dream will come through: a film about his little comic-strip creation Tintin.

The input of Jackson should not be underestimated, because he is the founder of New Zealand-based WETA Digital, a company that was also responsible for the special digital effects in the "Lord of the Rings" movies. WETA has produced a 20-minute-long test trailer to bring the characters to life. They use a special 3D technique which they also used to create Gollem, the tiny creature from "Lord of the Rings."

Spielberg said, "Herge's characters have been reborn as living beings, expressing emotion and a soul which goes far beyond anything we've seen to date with computer animated characters. We want Tintin's adventures to have the reality of a live-action film, and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honor the distinctive look of the characters and world that Herge created."

Jackson said that WETA will stay true to Remi's original designs in bringing the cast of Tintin to life, but that the characters won't look cartoonish.

Tintin was created by the Belgian comic-strip illustrator Herge, a pseudonym of Georges Remi, in 1929. His comic-strip creation is a Belgian reporter. He stands up for righteous causes and tries to save the innocent people from dark and evil enemies from all over the world. In these stories there are also references to real countries and real people who lived between 1930 and 1980.

Tintin has a little dog called Snowy which accompanies him all the time. The age of Tintin is quite static and is estimated to be between 16 and 19 years old. Consequently he has a few boy-scout ideals, which represent Herge's ideals for a more righteous world. The series about the Belgian reporter has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide.

When the movie will be released is not yet known, but for now both directors have other projects to complete. Spielberg is currently working on "Indiana Jones 4" until the end of the summer and will be available during the fall, and Jackson will wrap up "The Lovely Bones" by the end of the year.

God, I saw Daywatch over a year ago I think. It was good. I remember there was a rumor going around about the third one, saying it was going to be done in English... which totally pissed me off, because part of what makes it great to me is that it's in Russian. But no, most Americans are too lazy to go to a subtitled movie, no matter how good it looks, because they can't read and pay attention to what's going on at the same time. Oh well.

There can never be too many Batman movies!

actually there are way too many Batman movies and most of the suck...

I've just watched the trailer posted earlier here and it doesn't look very impressive. That bike with cannons... does batman really need to rely that much in technology to get the job done? Now about the joker, Heath Ledger could be a good choice, i was impressed by his latest works and i like how Nolan twisted a bit the typical joker making it look a bit more insane... Lucas and Harrison Ford working together... perhaps this means the star wars saga will be completed too.

Also, Guillermo del Toro is working on Frankenstein, Wolverine will begin shooting this month, starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, telling the story of Wolverine's past. Directed by Gavin Hood i think... hope it's good or the character will be ruined just like Boba Fett was, for example.

actually there are way too many Batman movies and most of the suck...

The only one that really sucks is Batman and Robin, the others were all right, even if they didn't really follow the comic book.

... does batman really need to rely that much in technology to get the job done?

He needs something to rely on, considering he doesn't have any powers like other superheroes.

---

Speaking of comic books, there's a Watchmen movie in the works, though it's not scheduled for release until sometime next year. Directed by Zack Snyder, who also did 300. The cinematography looks good from what I've seen (which isn't much), but I still don't know how I feel about Snyder doing the film.

Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, both of them sucked. Warner was so scared about the Batman franchise that there are like 4 movies that were all written but have never been shot, for what i read, there was even a Batman Beyond movie... thank god they chose not to make a movie out of that.

He needs something to rely on, considering he doesn't have any powers like other superheroes.
i'm ok with him using that "rope-shooting pistol" to climb walls, tracking devices, the batmobile and whatever... but a bike with cannons to the sides? that's a bit too much. DC comics has a problem with technology and superheroes... i mean, i know it's a stupid argument, but still; i've seen action figures of flash riding a bike? makes no sense, or superman in a weird flying machine of some sort...

I don't know. I suppose I'm just biased because I'm a big Batman fan. I didn't think Batman Forever was that bad; not saying that it was a great movie, but it was all right.

No, I agree. They do have a tendency of taking technology a bit too far, but, like I said, Batman kind of needs it. Though I agree that maybe they shouldn't have done the whole bike thing. It's not like Batman doesn't have other weapons fully capable of taking down Joker (or any of the other villains).

I concur. I've heard rumors of a Shazam! movie, though it's been said that the Rock is supposed to be playing Black Adam. Not too happy about that one.
There's also a Green Lantern movie scheduled for 2010 (I think), but I'm a bit scared about the writer/director - Greg Berlanti (http://imdb.com/name/nm0075528/). His writing credits mostly include teen dramas, so I have no idea what he's going to be doing with this.
I'm still waiting for a Preacher movie. There were rumors about it a while ago, but I haven't heard anything since. Though if it's going to be done by Mark Steven Johnson (like rumored), it'd be better off not being made at all.

I was unimpressed by Hostel. I waited til it came out on video, and after I saw it was ranked really high on some "scariest movies ever" list. It was gory, yes, but that was about it for me. The sequel has come out, and in my opinion it's much better than the first.. though that's not a difficult thing to achieve when you consider that the first one was piss poor. It goes a bit deeper into the story though, and from both angles.

And it's a remake, by Rob Zombie. It may not be scary, but with the director in question would suggest that it's gorey.

It was originally a John Carpenter slasher, made in the late 70s. Starred Jamie Lee Curtis.

Don't suppose the name Michael Myers rings any alarm bells?

That would be this guy:

It's up there with Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Old horror is the best, closely followed by Korean horror. <3 If you agree it's certainly one I'd recommend. :]

The sequel has come out, and in my opinion it's much better than the first.. though that's not a difficult thing to achieve when you consider that the first one was piss poor. It goes a bit deeper into the story though, and from both angles.

Well that's good to know, thanks! I'll go add it to my Netflix now. Although my hubby will laugh his ass off at me because he thought the first one was horrid. :p Oh well.

I second this.

I can't tell from the promos, but is that Liv Tyler in "The Strangers?" If not, it sure looks like her.

And the reviews I read on the new Indy movie were pretty positive. They all said it wasn't the best of them, but if you're a fan of the series you won't be disappointed.

I couldn't help it, I went and saw Indy 4 on Saturday. It was actually pretty good. It was pretty easy to figure out the plot, and the "surprises," but overall it was still good. Plus it was awesome to see Karen Allen (Marion from Raiders) again. I was actually impressed with Shia LeBouf (spelling, sorry). I was afraid he would be awful, but he was actually really good. And shocker or shockers, my hubby actually liked the movie too. And he hasn't liked anything for over a year, lol.

Okay so rather than watching the new ones, I've been back tracking. This week I watched:

Sixteen Candles.

The Sure Thing.
Pretty In Pink.

And I loved every one of them. =]

Recently I also saw Broken, which was god awful. And Super Bad, which was at least mildly amusing.

This past week I've seen the following:

The Bourne Supremacy
Beetlejuice
El Mariachi
Midnight Express
Cloverfield.

The Bourne Supremacy I enjoyed. A lot of good editing and good camera work. I don't really rate Matt Damon much as an actor. The car chase scene was also good in it.

Beetlejuice was pretty good too. I'd never seen it before until a couple of days ago. Micheal Keaton is brilliant in it. The special effects aren't all that special. I guess that's because of the time it was made. Still enjoyable though.

El Mariachi has a really good storyline in it and despite the sometimes poor translation, it's a really good film to watch. It was Robert Rodriguez' fisrt film. Well worth a look.

Midnight Express is pretty good too. I like Alan Parker's films. They're generally very good and this is no different. Didn't even realise that it was based on a true story until a day or two after having watched it.

Cloverfield was one of my favourite films of last year. Despite my eyes nearly falling out of my sockets from the constant moving of the camera, I still really enjoyed it. Some parts are extremely funny too.

The Thin Red Line.

Personally, I quite like war movies. Though this one seemed to get carried away with the narrative every now and then, I really did enjoy it. Plenty of big names in this movie too, a really well picked and enjoyable cast. Sean Penn, Woody Harrelson and John Cusack (just to name my personal favourites). Though I honestly can't see why they bothered putting George Clooney's name on the case, other than for sale value, since he's only in it for five minutes at the end. xD

Oh, and..
National Treasure 2: Book Of Secrets.

I love Nicholas Cage, though these films aren't really anything to shout about. Now, I know when to judge a movie on pure escapism and that's what this film is. It's not something you'd want to watch if you want a storyline you can really sink your teeth into.
It's one for the family, not for the brain.

i believe it was Hilary Swank. its a movie about the biblical plagues.

I have seen it then. It was okay.

watch the Jap version, its a bit better.

There isn't an American remake of One Missed Call 2, for starters. If you had actually read my post, and the film title, you could have worked out I wasn't referring to the remake. I was referring to the Japanese sequel.

Yeah, I thought the first one was pretty damn good to be honest. The second one wasn't too bad, but as I said before, I have seen better.

i saw Adam Sandler's new flick You Don't Mess With The Zohan.

it was just lame. sure, there were some funny parts, but even so, that couldn'd save the whole movie.

After an extended drought I managed to pop a few movies in over the past few weeks. Only notably good ones were Duck, You Sucker (Also called Fistful Of Dynamite) and The Prestige. Both were fantastic, IMO.

I also caught Children Of Men which was good, but overrated. I came away from it expecting something more than I got. And I just watched Miami Vice last night. Farrell and Foxx aren't any Crockett and Tubbs, that's for sure. I liked what I saw, but it didn't have the "Miami Vice" feel by any means.

The prestige was an amazing film! hugh jackman and christian bale played off each other alarmingly well and the story was entertaining and for me, kept me thinking.

I was disappointed with Miami Vice. I'm a big fan of Colin Farrell but the film just seemed to be lacking something.

What it was lacking was Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas. They are Crockett and Tubbs.

I watched Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil the other night. I haven't actually decided whether or not I enjoyed it. I think it went on a little long, without enough to keep me interested. Unfortunate really, considering that John Cusack and Kevin Spacey are great IMO.

Thank you for the Thai recommendation, I'll have to look out for that one. Cello is already in my collection, however. :P
I have to say, one of my personal favourites is Phone (Korean).
